The TV adventure series B. J. and the Bear premiered as a midseason replacement on February 10, 1979. Greg Evigan starred as B.J. McCay, a wildcat trucker who'd do anything for a price, as long as it was honest. He travelled the length and breadth of the country in the company of his pet chimp "Bear." In the 90-minute pilot episode, B.J. is framed for a crime he didn't commit by his perennial enemy, corrupt Southern sheriff Elroy P. Lobo (Claude Akins). He is busted out of jail by toothsome female inmates JoAnn Harris and Randi Oakes. The B.J. and the Bear series proper ran until 1981, by which time Sheriff Lobo had turned honest, thus smoothing the road for the spin-off series Lobo. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

The made-for-television Scene of the Crime is an anthology crime film, featuring three different short films--"The Newlywed Murder," "Medium is the Murder" and "Vote for Murder"--which is narrated by Orson Welles. At the end of each film, Welles asks the audience to solve the murder, and offers clues to help them discover the truth. Season Three of Murder She Wrote begins with the first episode of a two-part story, in which mystery writer Jessica Fletcher (Angela Lansbury) pays a visit to the Carmody Circus, an extremely small-time operation. It seems that Jessica has evidence that one of the circus' employees, a roustabout-clown who calls himself Carl, is actually her brother-in-law Neil (Jackie Cooper), who has long been presumed dead. No sooner does Jessica link up with Neil than the man is accused of murdering the circus' hateful manager Hank Sutter (Charles Napier). Jessica (Angela Lansbury) is convinced that Neil is innocent, and that he is covering up for somebody else--and this proves to be a reasonable conclusion when a second murder occurs, in which the victim is rival circus owner Harry Kingman (Joe Dorsey). Stripped to Kill is an exciting, low-budget, stylish mystery thriller where dancers at a local strip club are killed one by one. Detective Cody Sheehan (Kay Lenz) wants the case and is willing to go undercover as one of the dancers in order to catch her suspect. Stripped to Kill, directed with great style by Katt Shea Ruben, is a terrific thriller, despite its excessive gore and nudity. Kay Lenz seems somewhat uncomfortable in her role, which requires her to do a striptease, exposing her complete lack of dancing talent. However she is very effective as the ambitious Cody and has considerable chemistry with her partner Heineman (Greg Evigan). Despite the fact that the plot is routine and the ending implausible, the dancer's are gorgeous and photographed with flair, and there is a good deal of black humor that enlivens this erotic, highly-recommended fast-paced, lively thriller. ~ Linda Rasmussen, All Movie Guide

Friday the 13th director Sean S. Cunningham helmed this sea-monster opus about a team of engineers on an undersea missile platform who disturb the slumber of a huge, killer crustacean, which soon develops a taste for human-flavored snacks. The rubbery-looking beastie is quite a laugh, but there are some genuine freak-outs as it chomps away at the crew -- that is, while they're not reducing their own numbers through sheer incompetence. In the end, it's B.J. & the Bear's Greg Evigan (alas, minus chimp) who saves the day. One of a dozen-or-so subaqueous Alien clones (half of which were produced by Roger Corman) designed to trade on the building hype of James Cameron's long-awaited The Abyss, this soggy little picture managed to reach theaters first. Not that it's the least impressive of the lot -- actually, it succeeds on its own terms as a thoroughly intense and fast-paced "B"-monster flick, aided by good performances (Evigan is a likable, sensitive hero, and Miguel Ferrer quaffs the scenery as a high-strung jerk). At least it's better than Leviathan, which tells essentially the same story but wastes considerably more money. ~ Cavett Binion, All Movie Guide

Millstone is the all-too-appropriate name of the Texas hometown of sophisticated career woman Martha (Loni Anderson). No sooner has Martha returned home after a 15-year absence than she witnesses a murder. Relating this information to her sisters, Martha is confused by their reaction. Only when it is nearly too late does the truth come out: The killer is Martha's own brother-in-law Eddie (Greg Evigan). This shock from the present only serves to dredge up long-buried secrets from the heroine's past--hence the title of this made-for-TV melodrama. When Maura inherits an estate in Ireland, the couple decides to move there, bringing along their young daughter Aubrey (Briana Evigan). As the family settles into their new home, Aubrey begins playing will an old doll she's found -- and discovers the doll can speak to her. After darker and more threatening magical events begin occurring, Will and Maura find the long-gone remains of a dead girl in the basement. Paranormal investigators are brought in, and they discover that the old house was once used for evil occult practices, and the demons that have infested the house are not going to go away without a fight.
