Scott Speedman Movies
As the object of Keri Russell's affections on the WB Network's TV series Felicity, Scott Speedman displays a laid-back charm that has helped him win over critics and viewers. More than a few fans of the show, upon first glimpsing the handsome actor, could understand why Felicity, in the storyline that formed the show's premise, would follow his character across the entire country.Born in London, England on September 1, 1975 to Scottish parents, Speedman was raised in Toronto. In high school, he began acting on a dare from a girlfriend. He appeared on Speaker's Corner, a Canadian version of an MTV show in which people paid money to air their views on television. Speedman caught the attention of one of the show's directors, who encouraged him to audition for the role of Robin in the upcoming Batman Forever (1995). Speedman did so and failed to get the part, but he did manage to get an agent in the process.
Speedman acted in a number of Canadian television shows and spent a year at the University of Toronto, where he was an avid swimmer (he once aspired to swim for the Canadian team). After dropping out of the university, Speedman got his first film role in Kitchen Party, a Canadian film released in 1997. More lackluster work in television followed until Speedman, his career at a low, went to Manhattan to audition for the upcoming show Felicity. The show's creators were taken with his performance, and Speedman was soon living in Los Angeles, where the show was filmed. The positive attention that followed Felicity's debut made him and his co-stars the subjects of numerous interviews, articles, and websites, and gave Speedman the opportunities that he once could only dream of during his days of purgatory in Canadian television. Shortly after an appearance in the little seen 2000 comedy drama Duets, Speedman hit the big time when cast opposite Kurt Russell in the police detective thriler Dark Blue (2003). Though he did prove convincing in his role as a slightly naive LAPD homicide detective, the film quickly faded from sight at the box office and his commendable performance went largely unnoticed. His subsequent role in the romantic drama My Life Without Me once again showed his ability to carry a dramatic performance, but later that same year the up and coming actor nevertheless threw all dramatics out the window for a role as one of the sole humans in a neverending battle between vampires and werewolves.

A haunted New York City detective must delve into his dark past in order to stop a serial killer whose highly artistic modus operandi seems uncannily similar to that of a madman who stalked the city streets five years prior. Two luckless stoners begin a truly awful evening when they discover they have a dead girlfriend on their hands in this black comedy from writer and director Allen Moyle. Dexter (Scott Speedman) and Royce (Wes Bentley) are a pair of half-bright slackers living in a nowhere town in Northern Ontario. Dexter and Royce's lack of ambition is compounded by the fact they're both heroin addicts, and they support their habits by dealing dope for Omar (Raoul Bhaneja), a ruthless dealer who's not to be trifled with. Matilda (Taryn Manning), Royce's girlfriend, makes the mistake of dipping into their product one night and suffers a serious O.D.; frightened, Royce and Dexter decide they have to get rid of the body, and Dexter suggests they bury her in the boiler room of a drive-in movie theater where he used to work. The guys take Matilda's body to the drive-in and are about to cover her up when they realize she isn't dead yet; however, their timing is flawed, as this discovery coincides with the arrival of a gaggle of would-be Satan Worshipers, who are looking for a likely candidate for their first human sacrifice. Tribes of vampires and werewolves battle for supremacy among the undead in this follow-up to the horror hit Underworld. Tracing the bloody history of the ongoing war between the Death Dealers, a gang of upper-crust vampires, and the Lycans, a pack of scruffy werewolves, Underworld: Evolution finds beautiful Death Dealer Selene (Kate Beckinsale) and hunky Lycan Michael (Scott Speedman) exploring their own pasts as well as those of their comrades in hope of uncovering the secrets of this centuries-old conflict. As Selene and Michael deal with their bloody legacy as well as their forbidden romance, the violence between the Death Dealers and the Lycans escalates in what may be the final face-off between them. A new renegade fighter rises to defend the United States from an internal threat in this action thriller. Augustus Gibbons (Samuel L. Jackson) of the National Security Agency has successfully dealt with a number of threats to America's safety, but he faces a whole new challenge when he discovers a potent terrorist cell that has ties to the upper levels of the American military. Gibbons learns that George Deckert (Willem Dafoe), the secretary of defense, has been training a secret military faction to stage a coup against the United States by kidnapping and assassinating the president of the United States (Peter Strauss). Convinced there's no one he can trust within his circle of operatives, Gibbons turns to Darius Stone (Ice Cube), currently serving time in a maximum security penitentiary. Stone once served with Gibbons in the Army, and also took part in a mutiny against Deckert; despite his reckless side, Gibbons is certain Stone's fearless nature and peerless fighting skills make him the one man who can take on Deckert and his troops. A casual gay pickup turns into a nightmare in Tony Piccirillo's adaptation of his play, The 24th Day. Tom (Scott Speedman of TV's Felicity) approaches Dan (James Marsden of X-Men) in a bar, and the two hit it off. Tom brings Dan home to his apartment, where, after some idle chatter, Dan tries to kiss Tom. Tom shies away, and begins asking Dan about his sexual history. Dan eventually realizes that he's been in Tom's apartment before. They had an encounter several years ago, and Tom has a much clearer memory of that night than Dan does. Eventually, things turn ugly, and Dan finds himself tied to a chair. Tom extracts a blood sample, explaining to Dan that he just recently learned that he's HIV-positive. Tom insists that he's not gay, and believes that the only way he could have gotten the virus is from Dan. Tom goes out to have the blood sample tested, and when he gets back, he tells Dan that when he gets the results back, if Dan is HIV-positive, Tom is going to kill him. As they wait for the results, the hours go by, and Dan tries to engage Tom in conversation, to engage his sympathy, and to find a way to escape. As the two men talk and battle for control, Piccirillo flashes back to the recent past, and Tom's motives become more clear. A cop's personal code of justice begins to change after a number of incidents lead his city to a tragic wave of violence in this police drama. Eldon Perry (Kurt Russell) is a veteran cop with the LAPD's Special Investigations unit, a man who isn't above bending the law if it means putting people behind bars who deserve the treatment. As Los Angeles waits on the verdict in the Rodney King police beating trial, Perry is presenting testimony to Assistant Chief of Police Arthur Holland (Ving Rhames), who is well aware of the corruption in the SIS unit and wants to stop it. Perry, however, twists some facts as he speaks in the defense of his new partner, Bobby Keough (Scott Speedman), who is being investigated for inappropriate use of deadly force. For lack of honest testimony, Keough is let off the hook, and soon he and Perry have a new case to investigate -- a robbery at a liquor store than turned into a quadruple homicide. Perry and Keough quickly track down two likely suspects, Orchard (Kurupt) and Sidwell (Dash Mihok), but Perry is surprised when the head of SIS, Van Meter (Brendan Gleeson), tells him to let Orchard and Sidwell go, and instead points the finger at two ex-cons who should be taken off the street, even though they're innocent of this crime. Perry follows Van Meter's orders, despite Keough's misgivings, but in the wake of the L.A. riots, Perry has a change of heart, and decides to start working with Holland against Van Meter's corrupt methods. In the midst of it all, Perry is trying to hold together his troubled marriage to Sally (Lolita Davidovich), while Keough finds himself romancing a fellow officer, Beth (Michael Michele). Dark Blue was adapted from an original screenplay by noted crime novelist James Ellroy; originally set against the backdrop of the 1965 Watts riots, the story was later updated to 1992. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

A young man who has pledged his life to helping others finds himself in a pitched battle between two gangs of supernatural villains in this blend of horror story and action thriller. Michael Corvin (Scott Speedman) is a medical student who is heading home after a long day of school and work when he unexpectedly finds himself in the middle of what appears to be a rumble between two well turned-out street gangs. What Michael doesn't know is he has witnessed a skirmish between two deadly underground communities, unknown to the mortal world, who are battling for supremacy -- the Death Dealers, a tribe of vampires, and the Lycans, a band of werewolves. Selene (Kate Beckinsale) is a leading member of the Death Dealers who hears through the grapevine that the Lycans have plans to capture the aspiring doctor who witnessed their battle. Certain something is in the air, Selene begins following Michael around the city, and she finds herself growing emotionally attached to him. As Selene becomes more attracted to Michael, she becomes more convinced that the Lycans are planning a major attack against the Death Dealers, although vampire kingpin Kraven (Shane Brolly) is certain she's crediting the Lycans with more intelligence than they can muster. As Selene shadows Michael, she finds herself wanting to protect him, but her longing becomes a handicap when he's attacked by Lucian (Michael Sheen), the leader of the werewolf community, and the man she wants to save has now become a sworn enemy. Isabel Coixet's Mi Vida Sin Me (My Life Without Me) is a tale of a woman dying before her time. Sarah Polley plays Ann, a 24-year-old mother of two. Ann is married to Don (Scott Speedman), and they live near Ann's mother (Deborah Harry), who is bitter about the fact that Ann's father is serving a ten-year prison sentence. Ann learns that she has only a few months to live. She makes a series of goals to complete before her time on Earth comes to an end. Among her accomplishments are taking a lover (Mark Ruffalo), finding someone to care for Don, and recording birthday greetings for her two daughters. The fourth and final season of Felicity also represents the heroine's fourth and final year at the University of New York in Greenwich Village. Having had a falling out with her dad over "wasting" her education, Felicity vows to finance her senior year all by herself. She also hopes to get into an honors program -- and, failing to do so, she finds comfort in the arms (and bed) of her off-and-on beau Noel Crane (Scott Foley). Elsewhere, Felicity's other boyfriend Ben (Scott Speedman) has returned from EMT training in Kansas City determined to become a doctor; to no one's surprise, the marriage of Elena Tyler (Tangi Miller) and her fiancé Tracy (Donald Faison) doesn't come off, whereupon Elena launches a relationship with Ben's fellow pre-med student Trevor (Christopher Gorham); and to everyone's surprise, Ben's idealistic ex-roommate Sean (Greg Grunberg) weds Felicity's extremely eccentric ex-roomie Meghan (Amanda Foreman) -- with Felicity, an ordained minister in the Universal Life Church, performing the ceremony! In other developments, Noel uses a huge inheritance from his ex-wife to arrange for Felicity to get an assistant teaching position and to start his own web-design business with Sean. That business is swallowed up by Webb Graphics, and shortly afterward, Noel begins a relationship with Zoe (Sarah Jane Morris), his new boss's daughter. Also, Ben has a fling with Lauren (Lisa Edelstein), his dad's former mistress -- and subsequently agonizes over the fact that Lauren is pregnant. And finally, despite resorting to cheating to get a term paper done, Felicity finally graduates, as Ben moves to Arizona to be with his new "family." Interrupted by a four-month hiatus, season four resumes as Sean and Noel go back into private business again, spooky Meghan gets a job as a psychiatrist, and Ben -- minus Lauren and the baby -- comes back into the life of Felicity, now in pre-med at Stanford University. When Elena is killed in a car accident, Felicity spirals into a deep depression, breaking up with Ben in the process. Resurfacing at the wedding of Noel and Zoe, Felicity is given an opportunity, via a spell cast by the "bewitching" Meghan, to see what her life would have been like had she never broken up with Noel -- thereby setting the stage for the outrageous "double surprise" that brings Felicity to its riotous conclusion. ~ All Movie Guide

Director Bruce Paltrow teams with his Oscar-winning daughter Gwyneth Paltrow for this road comedy with music. Paltrow plays Liv, a struggling professional singer whose meets her father, Ricky Dean (Huey Lewis), for the first time at the funeral of her mother. As it turns out, both Liv and Ricky supplement the income from few-and-far-between gigs by singing in karaoke contests, and soon father and daughter are competing on the same circuit. Meanwhile, Todd Woods (Paul Giamatti), a salesman who has grown disenchanted with his job, his family, and his life, picks up a hitch-hiker named Reggie Kane (Andre Braugher), and during a stop at a tavern, they discover they make a good duet team while belting out a version of "Try A Little Tenderness." And waitress Suzi Loomis (Maria Bello) sweet talks Billy (Scott Speedman), a cabbie, into driving her to Omaha, where the national karaoke finals will determine who does the best job of singing along with the records, as the lives of these six characters begin to intersect. Duets also features Angie Dickinson as Blair, Liv's grandmother who was once a showgirl in Frank Sinatra's Las Vegas floorshow; Brad Pitt was originally cast in Speedman's role but withdrew after he and Paltrow announced the end of their off-camera relationship. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

Appropriately enough, season three of Felicity gets under way as heroine Felicity Porter (Keri Russell) begins her junior year at the University of New York in Greenwich Village. Forever leaving dorm life behind her, Felicity moves into an apartment with her boyfriend Ben Covington (Scott Speedman), while her former beau (and ex-dorm advisor) Noel Crane (Scott Foley) returns to school with his new wife Natalie (Ali Landry) in tow. Having decided to drop out of school so he can devote all his time to his high-living spouse, Noel is talked out of this rash decision by his friends and also realizes (as the viewer has known for weeks) that marrying Natalie was a big mistake. Just as Noel is annulling his marriage, Felicity's best friend and Ben's ex-flame Julie (Amy Jo Johnson) leaves the U.of N.Y. -- and, simultaneously, bids farewell to the series except for the occasional guest appearance in later seasons. In other developments, Felicity's classmate Elena (Tangi Miller), impatient over the fact that her boyfriend Tracy (Donald Faison) refuses to have sex until marriage, cheats on the poor boy. Eventually he forgives her -- and "gives in" to her in the bargain. Also, two new recurring characters have been added: Molly (Sarah Jane Potts), an English exchange student, and Ben's alcoholic father Andrew (played by an uncredited John Ritter). Season three is divided into two distinct sections, separated by a four-month hiatus. When the season's second half begins, we find out that Elena has been seriously wounded by Molly's unstable drug-dealing boyfriend -- and in consequence, Elena frightens one all by obsessing on self-defense (as for Molly, she returns to England to get her head together). Additionally, Noel, newly hired as a web-site designer, offers to get Felicity a job with his company -- and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that their romance will soon be rekindled, much to Ben's dismay. The season concludes as Ben's one-time roommate Sean (Greg Grunberg), having launched an affair with Felicity's mysterious ex-roomie Meghan (Amanda Foreman), is heading overseas; Ben himself traveling to Kansas City for his EMT training; and Tracy giving Elena the shock of her life by popping the question. ~ All Movie Guide

Season two of Felicity was the celebrated "year of the haircut," in which series star Keri Russell became a tabloid favorite through the simple expedient of shearing her familiar long tresses. Evidently, Russell's character, Felicity Porter, had made the big snip while traveling cross-country with her erstwhile boyfriend Ben Covington (Scott Speedman). Now summer has segued into fall, and Felicity enters her sophomore year at the University of New York in Greenwich Village. Changing her major from pre-med to fine art, Felicity also undergoes a few changes in her personal life as well. For starters, Ben briefly drops her to have a fling with a caterer named Maggie Sherwood (Teri Polo) but eventually returns to our heroine. Meanwhile, Felicity's former beau, dorm advisor Noel Crane (Scott Foley), starts dating a freshman named Ruby (Amy Smart) but ends the relationship upon learning that Ruby is pregnant with another man's baby. At the same time, Felicity's best friend and Ben's ex-flame, Julie, surprises one and all by moving in with Ben and his naïvely idealistic roommate Sean Bloomberg (Greg Grunberg) -- who, as it turns out, is harboring a crush on Felicity, expressing his ardor by way of a student documentary film. And in another "affair d'amour," Felicity's classmate Elena Tyler (Tangi Miller) falls for new student Tracy (Donald Faison) -- who, in a reversal of the standard "teen TV" cliché, refuses to have sex until marriage. Later in the season, Ben pines away as Felicity dates Greg Stenson (Chris William Martin), who runs the health center where she occasionally does volunteer work. By the time Felicity goes back to Ben, he has accepted a construction job in faraway California. On the verge of taking a summer internship at the Metropolitan Museum, Felicity discovers that her parents are divorcing, which sends her into therapy. And at season's end, Felicity's former boss Javier returns to New York, intent upon wedding his gay lover in an elaborate ceremony. Of the many individual Felicity episodes this season, the best remembered is "Help for the Lovelorn," a black-and-white Twilight Zone spoof in which the viewer learns a lot more about Felicity's somewhat spooky roommate Meghan Rotundi (Amanda Foreman). ~ All Movie Guide

Many young girls go off to college, but not all for the same reason. In the case of Felicity Porter (Keri Russell), her decision to enroll as a pre-med student at University of New York in Greenwich Village was motivated by a high-school crush. Enamored of fellow student Ben Covington (Scott Speedman), Felicity trails him all the way to the U. of N.Y., only to find that he isn't interested in her. Even so, our heroine decides to stay, and thus Season One of Felicity gets under way. And what a freshman year it is! No sooner does Felicity become best friends with another freshman, Julie Emrick (Amy Jo Johnson), than Julie herself gets involved with Ben. As for Felicity's mysterious, somewhat sinister roommate Meghan Rotundi (Amanda Foreman) -- just try to find her! But Felicity won't be lonely, certainly not so long as her dorm advisor Noel Crane (Scott Foley) carries a torch for her. Alas, Noel goes back to his former girlfriend, Hannah (Jennifer Garner), but Felicity isn't flying solo for long; in fact, by mid-term she has lost her virginity to an art student named Eli. Amazingly, with all this going on, Felicity still manages to do her homework and hold down a job at a café called Dean & DeLuca, where her gay boss Javier (Ian Gomez) is more than willing to offer a shoulder to cry on -- at least until Javier moves back to Spain near the end of the season (the better for actor Gomez to accept a role on a different series, Norm). Season one wraps up as Ben and Julie break up, whereupon Ben invites Felicity to take a summer-long cross-country trip with him. Felicity is certainly receptive to taking up with Ben again, but she isn't keen on hurting the feelings of Noel, who called it quits with Hannah and has been dating Felicity steadily -- nor those of her pal Julie. School lets out for summer break, and the decision is left to Felicity whether to go on the road trip with Ben or accept a free ticket to Europe for a chance to spend time with Noel on an important summer graphic-design internship. ~ All Movie Guide

Middle-class mom Rose Earl (Kate Jackson) has always had an excellent relationship with her son Bobby (Drew Ebersole), but ever since he entered college (the first in his family to do so) they have been drifting apart. Blame for this rift could very likely be levied upon the "bad crowd" with whom Bobby is travelling. Rose's premonition that her son's new friends aren't the right kind of kids is aroused by several pungent clues, notably her son's sudden academic slump in his sophomore year, and his ever-growing fascination with firearms. Then one morning, the boy completely disappears--whereupon one of his "buddies" surfaces with the claim that Bobby is on the lam from the law. Rose doesn't buy this, and she intends to uncover the truth as to what happened to her son. In his first film, The Suburbanators, Canadian director Gary Burns took sharp comic aim at the meaningless, numb lives of a group of Canadian suburban teens. This sophomore effort focus on the same social group, offering a fast and funny take on upper-middle-class gatherings, comparing a teen beer-bash to it's adult counterpart, the dinner party. Because his parents are attending the latter fete, Scott decides to host his own soiree. Unfortunately, his mother is super-uptight about having a pristine home, and so he calls it a kitchen party. Kids from all social groups show up, including Scott's sweet girlfriend Tammy. Meanwhile, his anti-social brother Steve hides out in the basement and listens to loud rock music. The adult party across town goes swimmingly until everyone gets pie-eyed and they become involved in a series of minor accidents outside the local liquor store. Things turn ugly when Scott's father off-handedly suggests that another father's son is a homosexual. Back at Scott's house, things take a similarly downward turn when Tammy goes off with the mysterious Steve. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide
