Three female friends separate and spend two decades leading very different lives in this engaging drama that falters slightly only in its ending. Isabel (Dora Baret) is a doctor with a clinic in a remote, impoverished area of the country. After her husband is killed in an accident, the very pregnant Isabel asks her two long-absent friends to come for a visit. One of the women is married to a wealthy man and moves in the elite circles of Buenos Aires, the other is married to an average Joe. After the three get together, they quickly come to the obvious realization that they are all strong-willed and in serious disagreement. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide

In retelling the story of the ancient (1499) Spanish-language classic by Fernando de Rojas, Comedia de Calisto y Melibeau, director Sabido has been forced to simplify the complex story. In the film, Celestina (Ofelia Guilmain) is a magical madame, who arranges for the noblewoman Melibea (Isela Vega) to be wooed and bedded by Calisto (Luigi Montefiore) a handsome nobleman. ~ Clarke Fountain, All Movie Guide

In rural Mexico, during the silent-film era, people who could read were delegated to narrate the films' story cards. In this film, Lucas Lucatero not only performed that chore, but traveled around with a charismatic peddler, Anacieto Morones (Emilio Fernandes) who at some point began to pass himself off as a miracle worker. The film begins as a group of women land on Lucas' doorstep requesting his help in having the now-deceased wonder-worker considered for sainthood by the Roman Catholic church. Flashbacks tell Anacieto's true story, which is as far from pious notions of sainthood as is possible, for his miraculous accomplishments were mostly of a sexual nature. ~ Clarke Fountain, All Movie Guide
In the 1920s, Mexico was still in a state of near-chaos. Rebellions and revolutions had followed one after the other for decades. Though things were beginning to settle down some, it was still a time when one had the feeling that anything could happen. This film tells the story of one boy's sexual coming-of-age during that time, punctuated by a peasant rebellion sparked by religious concerns (Catholicism had been officially suppressed). The lad has a crush on the wife of the Army man sent to put down the rebellion. He also has an affair with a local woman and briefly runs away with a pretty young prostitute. ~ Clarke Fountain, All Movie Guide
Sigmundo (Norman Briski) masquerades as a psychoanalyst in order to bed down with a bevy of beautiful women in this offbeat sex comedy. Flashbacks recall the experiences of his patients, and fantasies and dream sequences are employed throughout the film. His targets are a virgin who claims to have been raped by Martians and then by Satan and the nubile young daughter of a nymphomaniac. One woman longs to make love with her fashion-model husband, but he uses a separate bed in his egocentric pursuit not to look tired in front of the camera. Sigmundo always manages to be foiled just before the amorous moment of truth in this quirky comedy. ~ Dan Pavlides, All Movie Guide

This comedy is a reworking of old vaudeville routines used to show some hilarious (at least they are intended to be) sex situations. Although several sex comedies have come from Argentina, this feature holds little resemblance to the more successful efforts of the genre. ~ Dan Pavlides, All Movie Guide
- Starring:
- Zulma Faiad, Jorge Barreiro, (more)

A young man seeks a follower of Juan Peron who lead to his father's ruin in this plodding political drama. The hero spends most of the time wandering the streets in search of the man, but no insight is given to the character's motivations other than revenge. Symbolically, the searcher becomes the target in this film that seems to be a cinematic response calling for unity in Argentina in the wake of political volatility. ~ Dan Pavlides, All Movie Guide
- Starring:
- Sergio RenĂ¡n, Marcela Lopez Rey, (more)
Set back in 1870 in Argentina when several upheavals were happening all at once (increased European immigration, a new government, the tango...), this uneven drama looks at conflicts between rebel groups and the new federal government. One band of mountain-dwelling, gun-toting fighters is just as pro-Argentina as the government yet for various reasons, the leader of this group decides it is time to give up the fight and go home. Before he can follow through himself, the leader of another rebel band kills him and by that action, sets the federal army on his trail. Notable in its music and direction by Catrano Catrani, not all facets of the film hold up equally well. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide
- Starring:
- Maria Vaner, Alberto Argibay, (more)
