Rob Estes Movies

A stalwart of American television in both prime-time and daytime venues, performer Rob Estes capitalized on his devastatingly slick and suave image throughout his career. A native of Norfolk, VA, Estes attended USC after high school. The actor first turned viewers' heads in the soap opera venue, as passionate lifeguard Glenn Gallagher on NBC's seminal Days of Our Lives -- a role he held from 1986 to 1987. Thereafter, he landed a string of guest assignments on various series and roles in TV movies, but scored his next major career coup on an after-dark drama, the "guilty pleasure" series Silk Stalkings (1991-1999) -- in which he played the lead, sex crimes expert Chris Lorenzo. The program had an unusual history: NBC and the USA cable network originally co-produced it and ran it concurrently on each Thursday from November 1991-November 1993, but from 1993 on, CBS dropped it, the USA network produced new episodes in exclusive syndication, and Estes remained with the cast for two additional years.

Thereafter, Estes amassed a long and extensive series of ongoing roles on prime-time series. These included restaurant proprietor Kyle McBride on the fifth, sixth, and seventh seasons of Melrose Place (1996-1999); multi-episode guest turns as John Hemming and Oliver Browne in, respectively, the medical drama Providence and the Brooke Shields sitcom Suddenly Susan; and obnoxious, abusive ex-husband Nick Townsend on the blockbuster procedural series CSI: Miami. In 2007, Estes signed on to portray Lt. Tom Hogan on the short-lived ABC procedural drama Women's Murder Club. Shortly after that program's May 2008 cancellation, the CW network announced Estes' enlistment to play Mills family patriarch-cum-Beverly Hills high-school principal Harry Mills on its much anticipated series drama 90210, a spin-off of the original Beverly Hills 90210. ~ Nathan Southern, Rovi

Based on a series of popular mystery novels by James Patterson, the ABC crime show Women's Murder Club received an abudance of pre-release publicity not so much because of its source material, but because it represented the long-overdue return to television of former Law&Order regular Angie Harmon. The actress was cast as San Francisco police homicide detective Lindsay Boxer, a woman whose near-obsessive dedication to her job had caused the breakup of her marriage to Lt. Tom Hogan (Rob Estes), who thanks to the machinations of the scriptwriters was now her boss at the department. Joining forces with three other women in the crimefighting profession, Lindsay specialized in solving allegedly unsolvable murder cases. Her collaborators included medical examiner Claire Washburn (Paula Newsome), who despite her "workaholic" habits was able to approach her job objectively, and to devote ample time to her wheelchair-bound husband Ed (Jonathan Adams) and her sons Derek (Neilan Benvegnu) and Nate (Drew Matthews); assistant DA Jill Bernhardt (Laura Harris), whose mystery-solving activities occasionally took a back seat to her romantic entanglements with defense attorney Hanson North (Kyle Secor) and doctor Luke Bowen (Coby McLaughlin); and newspaper reporter Cindy Thomas (Aubrey Dollar), who was tolerated by her colleagues--albeit just barely--because she possessed a photographic memory (It was Cindy who insisted upon referring to the foursome as the "Women's Murder Club", much to the discomfort of the other three. Other regular characters included Lindsay's steadfast police partner Warren Jacobi (Tyrees Allen), Jill's no-nonsense superior, Deputy DA Linda Park (Denise Kwon), and Tom Hogan's new bride Heather Donnelly (Ever Carradine), a kindergarten teacher. Combining CSI-style procedural drama with Grey's Anatomy-style soap opera, Women's Murder Club" debuted October 12, 2007. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

The gimmick of the ABC procedural drama The Evidence was established at the beginning of each hour-long episode. It was explained via a videotaped police log that a murder had been committed, and that several clues were left behind by the unknown killer. As the camera froze on each clue, the viewer was treated to a flashback, placing that clue in context of the crime. Thus, the characters onscreen virtually competed against the viewers at home as to who would solve the mystery first. Orlando Jones and Rob Estes headed the cast as San Francisco police detectives Cayman Bishop and Sean Cole, who punctuated each investigation with kidding-on-the-square insults and clever quips, à la Robert Culp and Bill Cosby on the old spy series I Spy. Other regulars included Martin Landau as medical examiner Dr. Sol Goldman and Anita Briem as investigator Emily Stevens. The "backstories" of each character were revealed on a "need to know" basis in the course of each episode, showing how their personal experiences colored the direction of the investigation (much air time was devoted to the death of the wife of Sean Cole). Created by Sam Baum and Dustin Thomason, The Evidence made its network bow on March 22, 2006, only to be placed on hiatus after three episodes. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

On an impulse, Carrie Llewellyn (Jodie Bissett) and Jim Barber (Rob Estes) are married in Las Vegas. The couple heads home dreading the prospect of breaking the news of their instant union to their children--of which they have eight between them. It helps not at all that many of the kids already don't like each other, nor that Carrie's offspring can't warm up to Jim, and vice versa. An eventful family excursion to the local bowling alley finally brings everyone together--and when it seems that Carrie and Jim may drift apart, it's the children who cook up strategies to bring them back together. In one respect, this made-for-cable movie goes way, way past The Brady Bunch when a brief romance develops between the two oldest kids. Produced for the ABC Family Channel, I Do, They Don't was originally telecast on March 20, 2005. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

A summit meeting between the American president and the Chinese premier, held in secret on the luxury liner Queen Elizabeth 2 somewhere on the high seas, is rudely interrupted when the ship is hijacked by Taiwanese extremists. Fully prepared to nuke the vessel and spark a world war to get the point across, the terrorists cannot be stopped by traditional peacekeeping methods. It is up to a pair of long-estranged brothers, ATF agent Vince Kellogg (Joe Lando) and Secret Service operative Thomas Kellogg (Rob Estes), to secretly parachute onto the deck of the QE2 and save the world from annihilation -- with a little help from the ship's plucky (and drop-dead gorgeous) security head, Brittany Cooper (Rachel Blakely). Also appearing are Marie Matiko as Maggie Chang, a terrorist posing as a martial arts movie star, and Christopher Lawford, son of actor and former J.F.K. intimate Peter Lawford, ironically cast as the American vice president. Originally filmed as Attack on the Queen (the title of the novel on which it was based), Counterstrike first aired March 2, 2003, on the TBS superstation. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Based on Virginia Sorenson's novel On the Star, this ABC TV movie is set in a small Mormon community in rural Utah. Returning to his home town after many years is Erik Eriksen (Rob Estes), a world-famous piano virtuoso. Although beloved by millions of music fans, Erik is treated with disdain by his family, who resent his popularity and are shocked by his all-consuming passion for his art. The only people who truly "understand" Erik are his brother Jens (Mike Doyle) and Jens' fiancée Chel (Jennie Garth), herself a pianist of no small talent. In keeping with the film's title, innocence is lost beyond recall when Erik, much against his better nature, betrays Jens and enters into a torrid romance with Chel. The first of two radical cast turnovers occurs during the first half of Silk Stalkings' fifth season. Having worked together as undercover cops on the Palm Beach, FL police force for nearly six years, detectives Chris Lorenzo (Rob Estes) and Rita Lance (Mitzi Kapture) have fallen in love, and are married in a secret ceremony. Upon finding this out, Chris and Rita's ulcerated superior officer Captain Harry Lipschitz (Charlie Brill) breaks up their professional partnership. Chris is then teamed with Det. Holly Rawlins (Tyler Layton), a Southern gal who has never quite gotten over the drug-induced death of her sister. Rita's new partner is Det. Michael Price (Nick Kokotakis), a Chicagoan with plenty of his own emotional baggage. Less than one month after his marriage, Chris is gunned down and killed while trying to save his pregnant wife from kidnappers. Traumatized by this occurrence, Rita quits the police force cold, whereupon the saddened Lipschitz teams Holly Rawlins with Michael Price. This remains the status quo until the season's cliffhanger finale, in which Mike is falsely accused of murder and Holly is breaking every rule in the book to clear Mike's name; Lipschitz, on the verge of losing two crack "dog and cat" teams in a row, is seriously thinking of retirement. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Chris Lorenzo (Rob Estes), shot down and left for dead at the end of season three, recovers from his wounds and undergoes several grueling sessions of physical therapy. It is crystal clear at this point in the series that Rita is in love with Chris, but she may very well lose him to the female doctor who saved his life. On the rebound, Rita enters into a relationship with a man named Eric. One thing leads to another, and finally the series arrives at its cliffhanger season finale, in which Rita thinks she is pregnant with Eric's baby -- while Eric himself is shot down and killed right in front of Chris' eyes! ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Season three of Silk Stalkings finds the series missing from its familiar late night berth on the CBS detective anthology Crimetime After Primetime. However, the series will continue to air on the USA cable network, turning out first-run episodes for the next six years. Back to solve more crimes of passion amongst the rich and well-connected citizens of Palm Beach, FL, are undercover detectives Chris Lorenzo (Rob Estes) and Rita Lee "Sam" Lance (Mitzi Kapture). This season, Chris and Rita take their marching orders from a new superior officer: Captain Harry Lipschitz, a bombastic but likeable hypochondriac played by comedian Charlie Brill. Also added to the cast is Brill's wife and comedy partner Mitzi McCall as Harry's overbearing wife Fran. Highlights during the third season include the episode "The Party's Over," which boasts a plot transparently lifted from the 1944 film noir Laura: a grieving Chris investigates the brutal murder of his partner Rita -- only to be shocked and surprised when Rita turns up alive and well a few days after "her" body is found. Similarly, the season's final episode, "Dark Heart," takes a few pages from the 1972 Clint Eastwood flick Play Misty for Me, as Chris is stalked by a lovelorn female psychopath. This situation sets up the chilling cliffhanger finale, with Chris hanging onto life by a thread after being shot full of holes...and Rita finally realizing how much she loves him. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Sgt. Chris Lorenzo (Rob Estes) and Sgt. Rita Lee "Sam" Lance (Mitzi Kapture) continue to expose the sordid, sometimes kinky nether world of fashionable Palm Beach, FL, during the second season of Silk Stalkings. Working as undercover cops, Chris and Rita persist in their efforts to solve various crimes of passion amongst the community's rich and powerful, under the baleful eye of their superior officer Captain Hutchinson (Ben Vereen). Or at least, they do so until mid-season, when "Hutch" is transferred to Ft. Lauderdale; his replacement, who remains on the job for the balance of the season, is Lt. Lou Hudson (Robert Gossett). Season two of Silk Stalkings also marks the first appearance of two lovable reprobates. Comedian John Byner is cast as Cotton Dunn, a playboy con artist who preys only on those who can afford to throw away their moolah. Dennis Paladino is seen as Donnie "Dogs" DiBarto, a soft-hearted gangster who clearly has a crush on Rita. Among other plot developments this season, we discover that Chris Lorenzo is the son of famed actress Anna Alexis (Beverly Adams), from whom he has been estranged for years. This, coupled with revelations about Rita's troubled upbringing, serves to add texture to what might have been just another superficial cop drama. Although Silk Stalkings would end its CBS run at the end of season two, first-run episodes would continue to be shown on the USA network for the next six years. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
