The weekly, hour-long detective dramedy Psych made its USA network bow on July 7, 2006, right after the fifth-season opener of the thematically similar Monk. James Roday starred as Shawn Spencer, the genial "slacker" son of no-nonsense police officer Henry Spencer (Corbin Bernsen). Relentlessly trained from an early age to recognize the smallest and most minute clues at a given crime scene, Shawn developed a photographic memory, which he generally used to coast through life and avoid honest work. Hoping to gain a bit of prestige as a police consultant, Henry made the mistake of providing so much "inside" evidence that at one point he was accused of being a perpetrator. In his efforts to wriggle out of this dilemma, Shawn managed to convince the authorities that he possessed psychic powers (which he most certainly did not), and as such became a permanent "troubleshooter" for the Santa Barbera police department, answerable to interim police chief Karen Vick (Kristen Nelson) -- who, luckily, was an old friend of Shawn's father. Grudgingly partnered with our hero was hard-bitten detective Carlton Lassiter (Timothy Omundson), who harbored serious doubts about Shawn's psychic prowess, and Lassiter's co-worker Juliet O'Hara (Maggie Lawson), a gung-ho, ebullient type who believed every word that Shawn said. Also on hand was Shawn's best friend and confidante, Gus (Dulé Hill), an overcautious type who resented being continually thrust into harm's way, but who couldn't hide his fascination with various aspects of crime and crime-solving. In a clever directorial gimmick, viewers at home "saw" and "memorized" the various clues in each episode through Shawn's eyes, via freeze-frame and zoom lens. "Welcome to Deadwood...a hell of a place to make your fortune." These are the words that serve as greeting for saddle-weary former lawman Seth Bullock (Timothy Olyphant) as he rides into the illegal Dakota Territory settlement of Deadwood, a scant few weeks after Custer's defeat at the Little Big Horn. Before long, Bullock makes the acquaintance of another displaced Westerner, the cynical, burnt-out gunslinger Wild Bill Hickok (Keith Carradine) -- and not long after that, both men have had their first run-in with town boss Al Swearengen (Ian McShane), the confident, corrupt owner of the Gem Saloon (an establishment largely populated by flint-hearted whores). Thus begins season one of the iconoclastic HBO Western series Deadwood, arguably the most realistic program of its kind ever seen on American television. In the 11 episodes that follow the season opener, a group of vicious outlaws tries to foment another Indian war; Swearengen's status as the lord of the flies on the Deadwood dungheap is challenged by a Chicago "syndicate" (yes, they had them as far back as 1876); a valuable land claim held by feisty, wealthy frontierswoman Alma Garret (Molly Parker) becomes the focus of a deadly serious power struggle; the notorious Black Jack McCall (Garret Dillahunt) kills Hickok during a poker game (quite a jolt, to knock off one of the series' main characters so early in the game!); Deadwood is ravaged by an epidemic, during which the rambunctious but compassionate Calamity Jane (Robin Weigert) becomes a legend; Bullock is marked for death after bringing a murderer to heel; Swearengen is double-crossed by duplicitous "working girl" Trixie (Paula Malcomson); the town's criminal element tries to block annexation of the Dakotas, which would bring much-despised law and order to the territory; a minister finds himself less welcome in town than an opium dealer; and at season's end, Seth Bullock becomes Deadwood's official sheriff -- a position that offers neither job security nor much chance for survival. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Coming upon a street shooting, Andy (Dennis Franz) fires at what he thinks is the perpetrator's car -- but cannot prove that he fired correctly when the only eyewitness, the original shooting victim, disappears. As Andy nervously awaits an Internal Affairs investigation, the other detectives begin to suspect that newcomer Connie McDowell (Charlotte Ross) is a spy from the IAB. And in another development, a videotape shot in the bathroom of a bar may nail a rapist. Callisto (Hudson Leick), the mortal enemy of warrior princess Xena (Lucy Lawless), has come back from Hades with a lot of mischief in mind. Callisto's plan involves placing the duplicitous Caesar (Karl Urban) on the emperor's throne and corrupting Xena. Not everything goes according to plan, but the dire predictions made by evil shamaness Atra in an earlier episode come to pass as the Roman legions prepare to crucify Xena and Gabrielle (Renee O'Connor). Originally intending as the final episode of Xena: Warrior Princess' fourth season, "The Ides of March" ended up as next-to-last. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Still journeying through India, Xena (Lucy Lawless) and Gabrielle (Renee O'Connor) find themselves in a city overflowing with street entertainers and mystics. Incredibly, Gabrielle suddenly takes on profound healing powers, and is promptly proclaimed a Devi -- but Xena thinks that Gabrielle's skills are all smoke and mirrors. On the last leg of her journey through India, Xena (Lucy Lawless) elicits the aid of Krishna (Rajiv Varma) to rescue Gabrielle (Renee O'Connor) and Gabrielle's spiritual shaman, Eli (Timothy Omundson), from the King of the Demons. In the process, Xena learns of "The Way" -- that is, the manner in which the lives of humans are predestined to go along certain paths, even when those humans have no idea what those paths are. After complaints from a splinter religious group, this episode was withdrawn from Xena: Warrior Princess' U.S. syndicated package, and was never shown at all in the U.K. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Entrepreneur and aspiring film producer Kevin Johnson is presumed dead when his car is pulled out of the harbor after an accident, and a British documentary film crew comes to Los Angeles to trace the story of his rise and fall in this mockumentary. While Johnson rubbed elbows with movie stars and Hollywood power brokers, most of whom remember him fondly on camera, his greatest talent seems to have been his gift for schmoozing and his willingness to tell people what they want to hear (and get them what they want for the evening). He got his start by bribing a travel agent, Fred Barrett (Guy Siner), to put him next to the right people on flights to and from L.A., and with the help of agent Ricky Ryan (John Hillard), he begins pitching his script idea to anyone and everyone who might listen. However, it was Kevin's willingness to find female companionship for men in power (and eagerness to blackmail his new "friends") that helped get him financing for his project just before his car hit the water. James Coburn, Pierce Brosnan and Dudley Moore appear as themselves, and director Francis Megahy plays the leader of the documentary film crew. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide
