Two buddies set out on a low-budget road trip that will take them around the world in this independent comedy drama. Charlie and Cliff are two close friends who work together selling bathroom supplies. Charlie loves to travel and spends as much time as he can seeing the world on the cheap; Cliff, however, gets nervous about the prospect of going far away from home, and while he often promises to tag along with Charlie, he never does it. However, when Charlie proposes that they go to Thailand for the annual Full Moon Party, the request coincides with the passing of Cliff's old buddy Paul. Paul had been planning a global journey at the time of his death, and Cliff decides to honor his friend's wishes by scattering Paul's ashes in the four corners of the earth. With two weeks available, Charlie and Cliff set out to visit as many nations as humanly possible, scamming room and board whenever they can, and releasing a bit of Paul's remains at every stop. Shot on locations around the world with a minimal crew and locals playing themselves at most stops, Last Stop for Paul was written and directed by Neil Mandt, a veteran television producer with a background in sports programming. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

Originally titled Beg, Borrow and B.S., this weekly, hour-long series bore the distinction of being the first "reality" series offered by the ESPN cable network. Each episode featured two coed teams of contestants, who attempted to travel cross-country from Times Square to Alcatraz with only the clothes on their backs and the barest minimum of financial resources. Along the way, the contestants were required to participate in grueling and sometimes bizarre games and contests with professional athletes. The challenges posed on Beg, Borrow and Deal ranged from catching a pass thrown by an NFL quarterback to winning a prison basketball game. The series debuted September 17, 2002. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

A supposedly powerless production assistant shows a major movie mogul just how important he can be in this satiric comedy. Kevin Conroy (Henry Thomas) is a film student from Michigan who moves to Hollywood in hopes of getting his foot in the door of the movie industry. Kevin has a script he's been trying to shop around entitled "Three Days in a Salt Mine," but in the meantime he gets a job as a production assistant on the upcoming summer blockbuster Moby Dick II. Michael Lawrence (Mark Metcalf), the film's producer, has made a career out of taking classic novels and turning them into money-spinning tripe, and he expects this will be no exception; Michael is a terror to work for, and his lazy and stunningly foul-mouthed assistant Russell Bernside (Scott Thompson) is even worse. But Kevin and his roommate Tad Sheen (Neil Mandt) come up with a plan that will allow Kevin to get revenge and funding for his own project at the same time. One of Kevin's many jobs is to supervise the shipping of the exposed film to the processing lab; by hijacking Moby Dick II's very expensive special effects sequences and holding them for ransom, he's taken the future of the very expensive project into his own hands, though things hardly work out the way he expected. Hijacking Hollywood marked the feature debut for writer and director Neil Mandt, who also plays Tad. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide
