In classic noir tradition, the protagonist of the made-for-TV Double Deception is hard-boiled private eye John Kane (James Russo), who provides the first-person narration for the deliciously convoluted plotline. Kane knew that former call girl Pamela Sparrow (Alice Krige) was a keg of dynamite the minute she uncrossed her beautiful stems in his seedy office. "Please help me," pleaded Pamela in that come-hither voice, "My husband is missing." But the dame wasn't up front at first, failing to mention that her soul-mate was tied in with a 10-year-old murder case. Funny thing: Pamela reminded Kane of his dead wife -- and funnier still, there are some things just don't stay dead. It figured that Kane would get a few lumps on the casaba along the way, and that he'd have a couple of waltz-arounds with the top brass. But a case is a case, and when murder's involved, someone's got to do something about it, or it's bad for business. This daffy, hit-and-miss gore comedy was apparently conceived as a parody of Herschell Gordon Lewis' splatter landmark Blood Feast, which, frankly, represents too easy a target. There are no actual Pharaohs involved, only a crazed figure in a fez who roams the streets of Pittsburgh slicing, axing and chainsawing naughty ladies of the night, then absconding with various stolen body parts. The killings mimic the M.O. of a Las Vegas-based occult serial killer who was shot dead by a slouchy cop (Joe Sharkey) more than a decade ago -- a cop who has been haunted by the case ever since. A trip to Pittsburgh's Egyptian district leads our hero and a butt-kicking meter maid (Susann Fletcher) smack into the killer's hideout, where a bloody battle to the death ensues. It's clear the filmmakers intended this to be either a wild, Airplane!-style take on splatter movies or a frenetic, comic gorefest a la Peter Jackson's Dead Alive, but the story and direction lack wit or creativity enough for either one. Nevertheless, there are some outstanding moments of grim humor (particularly a subplot involving a quit-smoking clinic) and audacious makeup effects from local boy Tom Savini. When young Bobby Delaney (James Davies) inadvertently releases genie Dancee (Heidi Paine) from her lengthy imprisonment, the grateful girl agrees to grant him three wishes. This sequel to 1986's Bedroom Eyes is the mixture as before, with Wings Hauser replacing the first film's star Kenneth Gilman. Once again, stockbroker Hauser begins succumbing to his chronic voyeurism. And also once again, his obsession gets him mixed up in a murder. The film's secondary villain-revealed early on, so we're not spoiling anything-is the vengeful twin sister (Linda Blair) of Hauser's late wife. The real villain is.....but now we would be spoiling things, though veteran filmgoers will be able to spot the guilty party in Reel One. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

This adolescent sex comedy centers on a gang of high-school geeks as they compete to be involved in the movie being shot in their school. The movie is about nerds such as themselves, and they will do anything to star in it. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide

This low-budget psychological drama finds a pregnant woman slowly losing her mind after she is attacked by an intruder. Two scenes are "borrowed" from Dial M For Murder and Roman Polanski's Repulsion, but director Chuck Vincent manages to add his own touches of black humor to this routine feature. Three Big Apple prostitutes decide to give up streetwalking and find themselves fabulously wealthy husbands by becoming more cultured. Attorney Jack Devonhoff (Jamie Gillis) hires free-lance filmmaker George Ringer (Tim Gail) to set up a surveillance camera in the apartment of bank employee Laura Williamson (Kim Lambert) in this crime thriller. Laura is suspected of embezzlement according to Devonhoff, and George willfully watches Laura and her boytoy Carson (James Davies) in addition to any money matters. George's girlfriend Jeanne (Jeanne Marie) leaves when she feels neglected. Ringer soon realizes Devonhoff has set him up to take the fall for robbery and murder in this R-rated feature. ~ Dan Pavlides, All Movie Guide
