A man whose life has finally hit bottom tries to crawl back up to respectability, but few believe he can carry the weight in this drama from New Zealand. Gary Cradle (Gareth Reeves) is a loser in his late twenties who still lives with his father, can't hold a job and spends his days in a haze of marijuana and amphetamines. Gary's lack of self-esteem is fueled by his family's distrust of him and the fact his friends are just as unreliable as he is. When Denis (Matthew Sunderland), Gary's drug dealer (who also happens to be his ex-brother in law) refuses to extend him credit, he decides to raise some cash by robbing his next door neighbor, Mrs. Esckleson (Darien Takle); the heist goes horribly wrong, and Gary rapes the woman in the midst of the confusion. In the aftermath of the crime, Gary is shocked by his own actions and makes a decision to change his life. Gary gives up drugs, gets a job at a hamburger stand, and tries to mentor his nephew, whose mother makes a living as a prostitute. However, Gary's family is wary of his attempts to turn over a new leaf, and his friends aren't sure what to make of his new dedication to a clean life. A Song of Good was an official selection at the 2008 Rotterdam Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

Lord Belach (Marton Csokas), the son of warlord Borias (with whom Xena [Lucy Lawless] had far too many close encounters during her warrior-princess days) sets out to kill the Centaur Xenan (Hamish Hector-Taylor), himself the son of Amazon princess Ephiny (Danielle Cormack). Belach believes that his daughter, Nicha (Katrina Devine), has been kidnapped by Xenan, when in fact she has eloped with the boy of her own free will. When Xenan and the pregnant Nicha seek out help from Xena and Gabrielle (Renee O'Connor), they set off a chain reaction of reciprocal adductions and wholesale slaughter -- but the episode ends on a hopeful note all the same. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

New Zealand filmmaker Harry Sinclair turns to a more rural setting with this modern fairy tale centering on two lovers, Lucinda $Danielle Cormack) and Rob (Karl Urban), who live on a dairy farm in a quaint small town. On a standard errand one day, Lucinda accidentally hits an older woman on the road. The woman miraculously gets up unharmed and disappears, but soon afterward, Lucinda starts incorporating her fears into her current romantic relationship. In an effort to restore their romantic lives to a more exciting plane, Lucinda begins creating small conflicts on the advice of friend Drosophila (Willa O'Neill), hoping for instant results. One night, however, Rob and Lucinda are robbed by a Maori group, later revealed to be the nephews of the woman stricken in the car accident. The group steals a quilt, which Lucinda barters 117 of Rob's farm cows to get back. Meanwhile, Drosophila has attempted to steal Rob for herself, and Lucinda's plans turn out to work against her. Director Sinclair reportedly developed the story as an outline, with many elements devised as the film progressed during shooting. ~ Jason Clark, All Movie Guide

A woman who turns to a psychic to find out what happened to her daughter discovers more than she expected when she's reunited with her estranged husband. Bunnie (Danielle Cormack) was a member of New Zealand's hippie counterculture in the late 1960s and early 1970s, and in 1971 she went blind after staring into the sun during an eclipse while under the influence of drugs. One of the last things she saw before her eyes gave out was a soldier named Geoff (Kevin Smith), soon to ship out for Vietnam. When Geoff returns home wounded, he ends up in the same hospital as Bunnie; they fall in love and eventually marry. They have a daughter, but Geoff's stability and Bunnie's free-spirited nature prove a poor match, and one day Geoff leaves her, taking the child with him. Bunnie is soon convinced that both Geoff and the baby have died, and she sinks into a sea of sorrow and regret. After two decades, Bunnie encounters Cassandra (Amber Sainsbury), who claims to have psychic powers to put her in touch with her child. Her abilities as a medium notwithstanding, Cassandra and her brother Tony (Joel Tobeck) are able to track down Geoff, and they invite him to a seance, where a variety of stories emerge about what could have happened to Bunnie's child. Leading actress Danielle Cormack is a popular favorite in her native New Zealand, thanks to her role on the television series Xena. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

Here, with the help of several series semi-regulars, Xena and Gabrielle are forced to confront their feelings -- and, possibly, find forgiveness. Gabrielle (Renee O'Connor) is distressed to learn that her daughter, Hope (Amy Morrison), the result of an unholy alliance with satanic god Duhak, is still alive. Even more distressing is the fact that Hope has freed Callisto (Hudson Leick), mortal enemy of Xena (Lucy Lawless). Hope and Callisto aspire to cause an irreparable rift between Xena and Gabrielle by bringing about the death of Xena's son, Solan (David Taylor). Without elaborating further, it can be said that the episode's disclaimer is sadly accurate: "Xena and Gabrielle's relationship was harmed during production of this motion picture." ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
