Kate Walsh Movies
Bearing a sort of Catherine Deneuve-by-way-of-Kelly Clarkson look, Kate Walsh may have an impressive list of film and TV roles on her resumé, but her primary acting venue was the stage. Starting out in regional theater in Tucson, AZ, where she went to college, Walsh later got involved with the Piven Theatre Workshop and Shakespeare Repertory in Chicago, as well as the comedy troupe Burn Manhattan in New York.By the mid-'90s, Walsh began slowly but surely making the transition to the screen with appearances on TV shows like Homicide: Life on the Street and Law & Order. Walsh's list of film and TV appearances soon grew, and among her scads of roles were a number of prominent parts on very popular shows. She became a regular on The Drew Carey Show in 1997, donning a fat suit to play Drew's weight-struggling girlfriend, and in 2001, she took a recurring role on the HBO series The Mind of the Married Man.
In 2005, Walsh joined the cast of the smash-hit series Grey's Anatomy, playing Dr. Addison Montgomery-Shepherd, estranged (and eventually ex-) wife of "Doctor McDreamy," Patrick Dempsey. Walsh suddenly went from a working actress to a well-known face, and it looked like the perfect time for the actress to segue into the big screen in a starring capacity, after a string of minor appearances in major films. ~ Cammila Albertson, All Movie Guide
Nora Ephron directed and co-wrote this updated adaptation of a classic situation comedy that also casts a satirical eye on the entertainment industry. Jack Wyatt (Will Ferrell) is a movie star whose career has been going into a slow and steady decline. Desperate for a project that will give his reputation a jump start, Jack agrees to star in a film version of the once-popular television series Bewitched as hapless hubby Darrin Stephens, under the condition that an unknown actress be cast as the female lead so he won't be upstaged. After auditioning dozens of women who fail to make the grade, Jack meets lovely and charming Isabel Bigelow (Nicole Kidman), and is immediately certain she's the perfect choice to play witch-turned-housewife Samantha. However, there's one thing neither Jack nor the producers of the film know -- Isabel really is a witch, and while she's been trying to get along without her powers to better fit in among mortals, she will use her special talents when need be. The film also stars Michael Caine as Isabel's father, Nigel, Shirley MacLaine as Iris Smythson (the actress hired to play Endora), and Jason Schwartzman as Jack's agent. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

A power outage at Seattle Grace traps George (T.R. Knight) in an elevator with a seriously wounded police officer (Daniel Bess), forcing him to perform emergency surgery. The outage also causes another patient to lose his "pain medication"--to be exact, his collection of video porn--forcing Cristina (Sandra Oh) to do some clever improvising. Elsewhere, after trying to convince a religious zealot to authorize surgery for his daughter, Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) has a showdown with Derek (Patrick Dempsey). And Meredith's delusional mother Ellis (Kate Burton) waxes nostalgic over her long-ago love affair--with Seattle Grace's chief surgeon Webber (James Pickens Jr.) ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
On the verge of signing their divorce papers, Addison (Kate Walsh) and Derek (Patrick Dempsey) have second thoughts--and Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) fumes from the sidelines. Recovering from her miscarriage, Cristina (Sandra Oh) proves the old adage that doctors make the worst patients. Kindhearted George (T.R. Knight) is run ragged by Meredith's delusional mother Ellis (Kate Burton), who imagines that she is still a busy surgeon with tons of patients. Bailey (Chandra Wilson), aka "The Nazi", shows her human side when she is reunited with a young cystic fibrosis victim (Thomas Ian Nicholas). And Alex (Justin Chambers) worries that his medical career may end before it even gets properly under way. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
The OR staff has its hands full with the victims of a spectacular car crash caused by flagrantly careless driver Bob Seibert. In the course of events, it is revealed that Seibert is a drug abuser, wife beater and all-around louse--and he is also in desperate need of a liver transplant. Ironically, the perfect donor turns out to be the very man whom Seibert killed on the road, placing the surgical interns smack in the middle of a major ethical dilemma. Elsewhere, George (T.R. Knight) is forced to work side by side with the same nurse who gave him syphillis; Webber (James Pickens Jr.) gets what-for from his wife (Loretta Devine) for having brain surgery without her knowledge; Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Cristina (Sandra Oh) do their best to lose themselves in their work and forget their romantic travails; and we finally find out the reason for the rift between Derek (Patrick Dempsey) and Addison (Kate Walsh). ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
A planned romantic rendezvous for Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek (Patrick Dempsey) is interrupted by a train wreck which brings dozens of victims into Seattle Grace. Among these are a twentyish woman named Bonnie (Monica Keena) and a middle-aged man named Tom (Bruce A. Young), who form an unusual bond while impaled together on a pole. Meanwhile, a critical operation is put on hold while Cristina (Sandra Oh) searches for the patient's missing leg; Addison (Kate Walsh) and Izzie (Katherine Heigl) struggle to save the life of a burn victim's unborn child; and Alex (Justin Chambers) tries to care for his patient Mary (Juliette Jeffers), despite the obnoxious interpolations of Mary's friend Yvonne (Kym Whitley)--whose ceaseless carping about Alex's medical skills and bedside manner cause him to wonder if he has chosen the right profession after all. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Cristina (Sandra Oh) open the episode by cryin' the blues over getting romantically involved with their control-freak bosses. Back at Seattle Grace, Meredith's mom Ellis (Kate Burton), a brilliant surgeon struck down by Alzheimer's, is treated for diverticulitis--which unexpectedly becomes the catalyst for several revelations on the part of several secret lovers. Cristina resists the notion of telling Burke (Isaiah Washington) that she is pregnant, but this becomes a moot point when she collapses in the surgery room and Addison (Kate Walsh) is forced to perform an emergency operation. A young female patient (Angela Goethels) who suffers from uncontrollable blushing finds herself in the middle of a few interdepartmental intrigues. And George (T.R. Knight) is finally able to get the best of the insufferable Alex (Justin Chambers) when he is handed an unusally difficult assignment. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
Season Two of Grey's Anatomy picks up exactly where Season One left off, with the unexpected arrival at Seattle Grace Hospital of brilliant surgeon Addison Shepherd (Kate Walsh)--much to the dismay of Addison's estranged husband Dr. Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey), to say nothing of Derek's current amour, surgical intern Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo). Naturally, Meredith feels betrayed by Derek, and keeps on feeling that way throughout the rest of the episode. Meanwhile, chief of surgery Dr. Webber (James Pickens Jr.) recovers from his operation with the special help of intern George O'Malley (T.R. Knight), who has been appointed official bearer of gossip from the hospital; and Meredith's friend and coworker Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh) has big news for her boss Dr. Preston Burke (Isaiah Washington)--and vice versa. Finally, arrogant intern Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) displays a hitherto untapped streak of compassion when the team's favorite bartender Joe suffers a heart attack. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
Launched as a mid-season replacement on ABC in spring 2005, this sex-soaked medical soap opera quickly became a hit during its nine-episode inaugural run. Creator/executive producer Shonda Rhimes, who wrote the first three episodes herself, wasted no time in setting up the central conflicts at Seattle Grace. In taking an internship at the hospital where her mother once enjoyed great renown as a surgeon, beautiful Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) must suffer through not only heightened expectations, but also the terrible secret that her mother now suffers from Alzheimer's. As if that's not enough, Meredith also enters into an unlikely romance with her boss, Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey), aka "Dr. McDreamy." Once word gets out, the affair irks most of Meredith's co-workers: no-nonsense senior resident Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson), who toes the party line regarding resident/intern romance; nice-guy intern George O'Malley (T.R. Knight), who harbors a not-so-secret crush on Meredith; and ultra-competitive intern Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh), who believes Shepherd is playing favorites with Meredith. Much to her own surprise, however, Cristina soon finds herself hooking up with Preston Burke (Isaiah Washington), who's not only her supervisor but also Shepherd's rival for chief resident. As for surgeons-in-training Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl) and Alex Karev (Justin Chambers), they're too busy loathing each other to get caught up in any inter-office romance. Chief of Surgery Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.), too, remains above the fray -- until, during the cliffhanger season finale, he inadvertently affects the course of Meredith and McDreamy's relationship by hiring a new pediatric surgeon (guest star Kate Walsh) with a surprising link to Derek's past. ~ Brian J. Following its nine-episode inaugural season, the seriocomic medical series Grey's Anatomy returns with a full complement of episodes for its second year on the air--indeed, five of the unaired installments from Season One are added to the 22-episode manifest of Season Two, with even more to follow after the series begins offering two episodes per week at season's end. Picking up where the previous season left off, we find the romance between Seattle Grace Hospital intern Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) and handsome neurosurgeon Derek Shephard (Patrick Dempsey) coming to an abrupt halt when Shepherd's estranged wife, neonatal physician Addison Montgomery, joins the staff. Likewise, intern Isobel "Izzie" Stevens (Katherine Heigl) leaves her boyfriend Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) in the lurch (despite the heating up of their romance during a "Code Black" emergency at the hospital) when she falls for heart-transplant patient Denny Duquette (Jeffrey Dean Morgan). Meanwhile, another intern, Dr. Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh), deepens her relationship with cardiothroacic specialist Preston Burke (Isaiah Washington), but that doesn't constitute a full commitment by any means; and senior surgical resident Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson), aka "The Nazi", also finds herself Great With Child, and as such is briefly replaced by a woman who is her temperamental polar opposite. Other season highlights include an earth-shattering visit from Meredith's celebrated surgeon mother Dr. Ellis Grey (Kate Burton); an emotionally disastrous one-night stand between Meredith and intern George O'Malley (T.R. Knight); and a bittersweet story arc involving premature quintuplets. As the season approaches its climax, both Alex and Izzie are serious questioning their dedication to the medical profession; and there may be a change in the weather so far as Chief of Surgery Richard Weber (James Pickens) is concerned. When Emmy Awards time rolled around in the spring of 2006, the producers of Grey's Anatomy went home with a stauette in the "outstanding casting for a drama series" category. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Having proven that it could stand on its own two feet without Desperate Housewives as its lead-in, Grey's Anatomy remained in its new Thursday-night slot as the seriocomic medical series entered its third season. In addition to established stars Ellen Pompeo (intern Meredith Grey) Patrick Dempsey (Dr. Derek Shepherd), Katherine Heigl (intern "Izzie" Stevens), Isaiah Washington (Dr. Preston Burke) et. al.. former recurring players Eric Dane (as plastic surgeon Mark Sloan) and Sara Ramirez (Dr. Callie Torres) have now been promoted to "regular" status. The season begins as the Seattle Grace Hospital medical team's favorite bartender Joe (Steven W. Bailey) provides those who came in late with a quick run-down of the events of the previous two seasons. Meredith is now torn between two lovers, Derek Shepherd and Dr. Finn Dandridge (Chris O'Donnell). The prickly relationship between Derek and his estranged-wife Dr. Addison Montgomery (Kate Walsh) is made even more so by the reappearance of their daughter. Intern Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh) has decided to remain with her current amour, Preston Burke. And after seriously considering giving up the medical profession after the death of her beloved heart patient Denny, Izzie changes her mind when the Denny Duquette Memorial Clinic is established. The first of the season's two most crucial story developments occurs when Chief of Surgery Richard Weber (James Pickens) announces his impending retirement, sparking a tense competition amongst Derek, Burke, Addison and Mark to take Weber's place. The apparent dark horse in this competition is Dr. Colin Marlow (Roger Rees), though Marlow makes his mark on the proceedings by coming between Cristina and Burke. Another major plot deveopment involves a disastrous collision between a cargo ship and a ferryboat, which threatens to claim the life of protagonist Meredith Grey (it also provides Izzie's former beau Dr. Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) the opportunity to become overly involved with an unidentified accident victim, played by Elizabeth Reaser). At season's end, Dr. Weber's successor is announced, Cristina and Burke are about to be wed, Callie demands that her husband George O'Malley (Sara Ramirez) make a commitment, and the interns sweat out the results of their first-year medical exams. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Worried about his failing eyesight, Webber (James Pickens Jr.) confides his fears to Derek (Patrick Dempsey), who makes a startling suggestion. After a night of passion with one of the nurses, George (T.R. Knight) becomes the latest victim of a sexually transmitted disease that has inflicted several other members of the hospital staff. Burke (Isaiah Washington) discovers that his best friend Bill (Wayne Wilderson) is a patient at Seattle Grace, a fact that casts unpleasant aspersions upon Bill's wife. And Izzie (Katherine Heigl) and Cristina (Sandra Oh) are caught in the crossfire as the family of an alcoholic bickers over the man's medical treatment. But the big "money scene" in this final episode of Grey's Anatomy's first season occurs at the very end, when Meredith (Ellen Pompeo). discovers to her chagrin that she is definitely NOT the only woman is Derek's life. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Writer/director Chuck Parello's sequel to John McNaughton's Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer traces the murderous career of the title character after the events of the first film. Opening with scenes of woodland carnage, the film shifts to a homeless shelter where Henry (Neil Giuntoli, replacing Michael Rooker) ignores the rape of one fellow resident by another. Henry soon lands back on his feet by obtaining a job installing port-a-potties alongside straight shooter Kai (Rich Komenich) and his wife, Cricket (Kate Walsh). The kind but low-rent couple allow Henry to move into their home, where he makes the acquaintance of Cricket's dowdy, troubled niece, Louisa (Carri Lynn Levinson). As Louisa begins to develop a dangerous crush on Henry, the killer discovers that Kai is an arsonist and soon joins him on a series of jobs. When a pair of drugged-out teens witnesses one of the fires, Henry convinces Kai to help him kill the boys; soon the pair are murdering innocents to let off steam. Cricket, worried about her husband's erratic behavior and her niece's attachment to Henry, orders Kai to kick Henry out. Henry, meanwhile, rejects the sexual advances of the unbalanced Louisa, setting the stage for further bloodshed.
