Amon Goeth was an SS offer in the German army during World War II who oversaw operations at a concentration camp in Plaszow, Poland. In 1946, Goeth was found guilty of murder of the thousands who were executed at Plaszow by a Polish tribunal, and he was executed for his crimes; he was survived by his wife and young daughter. After Goeth's death, his wife frequently told her daughter Monika that Goeth was the victim of a tremendous misunderstanding and he was a good and noble man at heart; when Monika began to learn the truth about her father's crimes, her mother committed suicide and Monika was forced to deal with her family's dark history on her own. In 2002, almost ten years after Ralph Fiennes delivered a fearsome performance as Amon Goeth in the film Schindler's List, Monika Herwig published a book in Germany about the memories of her father she grew up with and the truth she had to come to terms with; around the same time, documentary filmmaker James Moll came into contact with Helen Jonas-Rosenzweig, a surviving inmate of the Plaszow camp who worked as a servant in the Goeth family's quarters. Moll arranged for Monika and Helen to meet at the ground of the Plaszow camp for an interview, and Inheritance documents their conversation as Monika is confronted with her father's ugly legacy and Helen recalls the horrors she faced and the friends who did not survive. Inheritance was screened as part of the 2006 Los Angeles Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

This riveting TV documentary was a joint effort between Hollywood superproducer Steven Spielberg, WWII historian Stephen E. Ambrose and director James Moll, the man responsible for the Oscar-winning Holocaust account Last Days. Concentrating on the final days of the War in the Pacific, from Iwo Jima to Hiroshima, Price for Peace offers reams of rare combat and mop-up footage (much of it in color), coupled with eyewitness interviews from both sides of the conflict. For every story provided by an American veteran of the war, there is an equally compelling story from a former member of the Japanese armed forces. Few of the battle and interview sequences have quite the emotional impact of those moments near the end of the film in which the former enemies tearfully embrace, offering mutual apologies, condolences and words of encouragement. Hosted by Tom Brokaw, Price for Peace made its first NBC network appearance on May 27, 2002. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

In late 1944, at great cost while Germany was losing the war, Adolph Hitler brought the Holocaust to Hungary. In one of the last centers of Jewish culture, the Nazis deported and killed 425,000 people in just sixty days. The Last Days is an outgrowth of the Survivors of the Shoah Visual History Foundation, as was 1996's Survivors of the Holocaust on TNT. Created by Steven Spielberg in 1994 after he filmed Schindler's List, the organization is dedicated to recording the oral histories of as many Holocaust survivors as possible before it's too late. In The Last Days, directed and edited by James Moll, we hear the accounts of five survivors of the "cleansing" of Hungary. ~ Chris Gore, All Movie Guide

Thirty years ago, science-fiction editor Art Saha coined the term "trekkies" when he saw a few fans of Star Trek's first season wearing pointy ears. Today, the word is found in the Oxford dictionary, and aficionados of the long-run series have seen their subculture achieve stratospheric status. In this documentary on the fan mania surrounding Star Trek, Denise Crosby (Star Trek: the Next Generation) serves as tour guide, stopping off at a radio talkshow, visiting fans in their homes, interviewing actors of both the original and later series, and visiting fan clubs and conventions. Starbase Dental, a Trek-themed drilling station operated by dentist Dr. Denis Bourguignon, is only one of the unusual fan homages revealed here. World premiere at the 1997 Hamptons and AFI Los Angeles film festivals. ~ Bhob Stewart, All Movie Guide
