A former slave and a German bounty hunter become unlikely allies in the battle against a tyrannical plantation owner in this western from visionary director Quentin Tarantino. Once Django has aided Dr. Schultz in coralling the Brittle brothers, the two team up to capture some of the most wanted men in the South. Meanwhile, Django never loses sight of his mission to free Broomhilda from the treacherous slave trade before it's too late. Upon arriving at Candie's nefarious plantation, dubbed Candyland, Django and Dr. Schultz discover that slaves are being groomed for gladiator-like competitions by Candie's malevolent right-hand man Billy Crash (Walton Goggins), and together they skillfully work their way onto the compound for a closer look. But just as Django and his partner locate Broomhilda and plot a daring escape, Candie's house slave Stephen (Academy Award-nominee Samuel L. Jackson) catches wind of their plan, and informs his master of the betrayal. Georgian filmmaker Dmitriy Tsintsadze directs the psychological drama Gun-shy, based on a novel by Dirk Kurbjuweit. Rather than serve in the military, sensitive young Lukas (Fabian Hinrichs) opts to do community service in order to fulfill his government requirement. His duties involve delivering food to old people like the former prostitute Sieveking (Ingeborg Westphal) and the war veteran Beckmann (Rudolph W. Marnitz). One day on the bus, a strange young woman (Lavinia Wilson) slips him a note that reads "Help Me." He follows her, learns her name is Isabella, and discovers she's involved in an abusive relationship with her stepfather, Romberg (Johan Leysen). After Lukas finds out that Romberg is also a big-time motivational speaker, he's moved to do something about the situation. Director Tsintsadze also contributes to the original musical score. In this taut contemporary thriller, a group of vacationers who find a can of valuable gems must figure out why they're dying one by one in the wilderness. Five German friends travel to South Africa for a rugged 11-day wilderness vacation without cell phones or any other contact with civilization. One of them befriends a stranger and invites him along as they take a chartered plane to a region near the Namibian border. Their hiking and camping expedition goes smoothly until the second day, when they find a dead parachutist with a can of uncut diamonds worth around six million dollars. They decide to bury the man and debate whether they should inform the authorities when they reach civilization. Then someone dies suddenly from an apparent accident. The deaths continue as tensions and suspicions mount. Before it's too late, the survivors have to figure out if the victims died by accident, were killed by an outsider who appears to be stalking them, or were murdered by one or more members of their own group. ~ Todd Kristel, Rovi

For this Italian-Polish-German co-production, Krzysztof Zanussi adapted the 1949 play Brat Naszego Boga by Karol Wojtyla, aka Pope John Paul II. Acknowledging the theatrical origins, the opening takes place in theater dressing rooms where the actors discuss their roles. Early scenes take place on stage before expanding cinematically. John Paul II recently canonized painter-turned-priest Adam Chmielowski as Saint Brother Albert, and the play was a tribute to Chmielowski, who gave up a comfortable life to work with the poor. The story begins in 1863 when Chmielowski (Scott Wilson) joins an uprising against occupying Russians and has a leg amputated. Working as a painter, Chmielowski is seen in his studio with various friends. After encountering a group of homeless people, he devotes much energy to helping them, eventually entering the priesthood to deal with the problems of poverty. This four-part, four-hour British miniseries was a sequel to Malcolm Bradbury's 1990 TV effort The Gravy Train. Christoph Waltz returned to the role of Dorfman, a terminally idealistic member of the European Economic Council. This time around, the teeny-tiny Balkan state of Slaka hoped to join the Council in hopes of supping from the same public-fund trough as the rest of the European nations. The Gravy Train was the first of two British miniseries focusing on the seriocomic misadventures of Dorfman (Christoph Waltz), a new member of the European Economic Council. Embarking upon his diplomatic career with stars in his eyes, Dorfman was quickly disillusioned by the infighting, pettiness, and flat-out greed indigenous to the Council's headquarters in Brussels. Written by Malcolm Bradbury, The Gravy Train yielded four hour-long episodes, which aired over Britain's Channel Four from June 27 to July 8, 1990.
