Director Dominik Graf weaves fantasy and reality with this adaptation of the popular novel by author Kai Meyer. The year is 1818, and the setting is Münsterland. A nun named Anna Katharina von Emmerich bears the mark of stigmata, and numerous pilgrims have come flocking to her bedside. Clemens von Brentano is an artist who makes the pilgrimage to Anna's sickbed in order to record her visions and beliefs for posterity. In 1984, the director of this extraordinarily long film (25+ hours) released a similarly long film, Heimat, which was a mere 15 hours long. Both of them are essentially television miniseries that have been edited for festival viewing into one enormously long film. In this sequel, Die Zweite Heimat follows the lives of a group of young people in Munich in the 1960s and '70s. The main character is a musician from the first film who has been forced to leave his small hometown in order to study music composition in Munich. The circumstances of his move have made him somewhat bitter. He gradually becomes involved in his new life among the musicians and budding filmmakers of the city, and the stories spin out from there, as each character ages and adapts to life's changes. ~ Clarke Fountain, All Movie Guide

In this mystery/thriller based on a novel by Patricia Highsmith, Nico Thomkins (Udo Schenk), a writer, and his wife Helen (Anke Sevenich) are in the habit of playing games with one another. Even while they are breaking up, they are sufficiently in tune with one another to continue this practice. When the writer's wife takes off without leaving a note behind, people begin to suspect that he may have murdered her, and he plays along with this notion to the point of planting clues which would incriminate him. Obviously, no one with a shred of common sense would do such a thing, and these tricks get him into trouble.
