A pretty Swiss Miss comes to the rescue of a mountain resort when the entire staff walks out. She brings in seven circus performers to replace the cook, butler, maids and other household employees the night of an important social engagement. Intended as an adult parable (meaning intellectually not for small kids), this symbolic drama by director Gottfried Reinhardt has only rhymed dialogue which may be a drawback since prose dialogue is enough of a challenge for most scripters. "Everyman" is played by Walther Reyer, someone who starts to reconsider his life as he faces up to the fact that his mortality might bring him up short very soon. Along with "Everyman" are characters like God (Ewald Balser), Death (Kurt Heintel), Paramour (Ellen Schwiers), the wily Devil (Heinrich Schweiger), and Faith (Paula Wessely) that each play obvious parts in the drama to get Everyman headed on the right path. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide

- Ewald Balser, Kurt Heintel, (more)
A charming, sophisticated, off-beat, and unlikely comedy, Ein Mann Geht durch die Wand has a title that describes the crux of the humor: an unprepossessing underling in the revenue offices discovers he can walk through walls. Herr Buchsbaum (Heinz Ruehmann) is naturally quite surprised at this development, but he soon finds some very understandable ways to use his newfound ability. His exploits lead both to laughter and to a tug at the heartstrings. Also figuring in the tale are his attractive next-door neighbor, two colleagues at work, and his boss. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide
- Starring:
- Nicole Courcel, Rudolf Rhomberg, (more)
17th century author Daniel Defoe is assisted by a group of children in this drama. ~ All Movie Guide
The fact-based Viele Kamen Vorbei (Many Passed By) was inspired by a well-publicized series of sex killings along the highways of Germany. The principal character is an innocuous-looking psychopath who picks up young, female hitchhikers, sexually assaults his victims, then strangles them. Though handled in a methodical, documentary-style fashion, the more exploitational aspects of the story still rise to the surface. Harald Maresch is disturbingly convincing as the handsome, personable killer. Viele Kamen Vorbei was acquired for worldwide distribution by RKO Radio. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
- Starring:
- Harald Maresch, Francis Martin, (more)
German director Paul May affects a non-judgemental approach -- the tale is filmed from neither a pro nor an anti-military stance -- in presenting this fascinating, finely crafted and farcical look into life in a German military barracks shortly before WW II erupts. The story of a rebellious young trainee who launches a mutiny against his superiors is based on a best-selling novel by H.H. Kirst and was followed by two sequels. Though most of the narrative centers on the trials and tribulations of new-recruit Vierbein, it is still largely an ensemble piece, and the lives of other soldiers, officers and civilians, most of whom are played by non-professional or unknown actors, are interconnected. The film's title refers to a particular type of German military pistol. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide
- Starring:
- Helen Vita, Eva-Ingeborg Scholz, (more)
