During their efforts to salvage the wreckage of infamous PeaceKeeper vessel Zelbinon, Moya's crew members come across the abandoned PK technician Gilina (Alyssa-Jane Cook). Aeryn (Claudia Black) experience the pangs of jealousy when Gilina evinces fondness for Crichton (Ben Browder)--But this dilemma is minor compared to the greater threat of the Sheyang scavenger team which hopes to claim Zelbinon for itself. Meanwhile, Rygel (Jonathan Hardy) experiences hellish flashbacks of the torture he endured at the hands of Zelbinon's Captain Durka (David Wheeler). Written by Billy Marshall-Stoneking, "The Pawn" takes place at a Czechoslovakian test tournament. The IMF is assigned to expedite the defection of Soviet scientist and chess champion Dr. Gregor Antonov (Bryan Marshall) --- and also to rescue Antonov's daughter, who is being held by the police as "security". The success of the mission hinges upon an elaborate magic show, staged by professional prestidigitator Zorbuskaya (Rowena Wallace). The trial of three men in the bombing of a Hilton Hotel in Sidney in 1978 serves as the general focus for this docudrama on the nature of prejudice and justice. After the hotel bombing, authorities suggested that non-Indian members of a Hindu sect called Ananda Marga (path of bliss) had done the deed -- which killed a few people, including a policeman, but did not harm any of the Commonwealth Nations' delegates at the hotel at the time. About a year later, a paid police informant accused three members of the evangelical Hindu sect of making a bomb to kill a right-wing politico. The police arrested the men, a trial ensued with much conflicting evidence, and the trio was acquitted because of a hung jury. As noted at the end of the movie, in a second trial six months later, the men were convicted and sentenced to long prison terms. Several noted Australian actors such as Tony Barry, Max Cullen, Chris Haywood, and Richard Moir) were cast as the attorneys, defendants, and detectives in this drama directed by Esben Storm. Years later, after many appeals, the fact that the whole trial was based on manufactured evidence and that the men were innocent came to light. This human-interest drama is well intentioned and has a moving finale, but the story is too thin to stretch over ninety minutes. Set in the 1830s, the tale begins when little Joanna (Anna Ralph) gets lost and comes across an Aboriginal woman (Mawuyul Yathalawuy) who takes her under her wing. The two cannot communicate except by gestures, facial expressions, and whatever they can mime because the Aboriginal, Manganinnie, does not speak English. She herself is looking for her tribe and so the pair wanders through some very scenic locations in search of their future. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide
