This German language suspense film is based on a quite long best-selling novel of the same name by Johannes Mario Simmel and condenses the novel's complex story using flashbacks and rapid movement between locations. When a young man (Alain Noury) goes to Vienna to try to solve the mystery of his industrialist father's assassination, his investigation leads to events that took place in Vienna in 1939. It also infringes on secrets important to all the Allied Force secret services (French, Russian, American and British), so much so that they forget their natural antagonism and join forces to try and stop the young man in his quest for answers. ~ Clarke Fountain, Rovi

Rull (Wolfgang Schneider) is in his last year at a classical German state school. Believing all authority figures are repugnant, he engages in a series of bizarre behaviors. He literally acts like a bull in a china shop, alienates his friends, loses his girlfriend and infuriates his teachers. When he paints a swastika on a wall of the Parliament building, he really gets in trouble. This film is based on the novel The Unadvised by Thomas Valentin. In the novel, the principle character was a hero, but he turns into an alienating buffoon in the celluloid version. Neither authority figures nor the counterculture is spared in this satire. Music is provided by Andy Warhol and the Velvet Underground. ~ Dan Pavlides, Rovi

This effective, satirical comedy by popular German director Kurt Hoffmann combines music and cabaret-style entertainment with enough witty humor to keep audiences interested in the slight story. The tale is focused on an old castle where an impoverished, attractive Countess Charlotte (Liselotte Pulver) is trying to reach some sort of resolution to her financial problems. Suddenly the castle's dormant ghostly residents come to life, so to speak, in order to advise the countess on how best to raise funds. They not only help her in that regard but also take an interest in improving her love life. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, Rovi
