As originally produced for and aired on the BBC in 2008, this feature stars Sean Bean (Troy) as Richard Sharpe, a Lieutenant Colonel in India circa 1818 - the era of British Colonialism. He's journeying across the country alongside colleague Sergeant Major Patrick Harper (Daragh O'Malley), on a mission to co-escort the gorgeous Marie-Angelique Bonnet (Beatrice Rosen) to meet her fiancé. Unfortunately, this means trekking across deadly badlands, rife with hundreds of bandits. In the process, Richard, Patrick and Marie-Angelique run into a ragged, motley group of soldiers led by a man named Beauclaire (Luke Ward-Wilkinson) , and Sharpe must help deliver its men from the clutches of the evil bandit Chitu (Ulhad Tayas) to the safe arms of the next army garrison. A mild-mannered banker finds himself living out his wildest dreams, only to wake up to a major dilemma in a continent-hopping comedy. It would appear Cathy feels the same way about their relationship, since she's been fooling around on the side with Raymond's boss, Strothers (Patrick Barlow). Raymond's one escape from his dreary life comes from his part-time job as a dance instructor, and he often fantasizes about Orlinda (Vanessa Nunes), a beautiful and famous dancer from Brazil. One day, Raymond discovers that Cathy has finally left him to run away with Strothers, and Raymond snaps; he embezzles a fortune from the bank, and hops on the first plane for Rio, where with the help of taxi driver Paulo (Santiago Segura), he finds the lovely Orlinda, and to his amazement ends up spending the night with her. The next morning finds Raymond in a more stable frame of mind, and he decides he should return the money to the bank, but when he discovers Orlinda is gone, he realizes she took the embezzled funds with her, and now he has to find her and recover the money before it's too late. Created by Bernard Cornwell, Sharpe was the umbrella title for a collection of two-hour British historical dramas, telecast annually in two- to three-episode clusters from May 5, 1993 to May 21, 1997. Sean Bean starred as Richard Sharpe, a fearless and enterprising Yorkshire-born military officer who saw his duty and did it throughout the Napoleonic Wars. Abigail Cruttenden was eventually added to the cast as Sharpe's wife Jane.
