Marin Hinkle Movies
Tanzania native Marin Hinkle is best known for her role as bookstore proprieter Judy Brooks on ABC's Once and Again, though her breakthrough performance was on long-running soap opera Another World. After the cancellation of Once and Again in 2002, Hinkle went on to find success in the sitcom world, co-starring with Charlie Sheen and Jon Cryer on CBS' popular Two and a Half Men, and appeared on a variety of prime-time dramas including ER, House, and Law & Order. Though Hinkle is primarily a television actress, she has had small roles in several films; her credits include Frequency, I Am Sam, The Next Big Thing, and Rails & Ties. ~ Tracie Cooper, All Movie Guide- 1998

A devoutly Jewish women finds love outside her faith and is forced to make a difficult decision in this drama. Rachel Pearlman (Sabrina Boudot) was raised in a family of Hassidic Jews and works in the jewelry store owned by her father Chaim (Ben Hammer). Chaim thinks that it's time that his daughter got married, and he often arranges meetings with men from the Hassidic community, but none of them strike Rachel's fancy. Nick (Alex Draper) comes to work at the store to pay off a repair bill on a ring he purchased, and he's immediately smitten with Rachel. Rachel finds herself just as attracted to Nick, but Nick is a gentile, and becoming involved with him would be offensive both to her family and her faith. In spite of this, Rachel and Nick begin dating on the sly, until Chiam finds out and demands that she stop seeing him. Chiam makes plans to marry off Rachel as soon as possible, but Rachel still loves Nick, and she is forced to choose between her family and community and the man who has stolen her heart. A romantic comedy with a few surreal/absurdist twists, the story centers on recent medical school drop-out David who is first seen aimlessly traipsing about Manhattan musing about the rest of his life when he runs into a strange woman who introduces herself as Nancy and asks if he would interested in spending the next couple of years helping her to produce and direct a small film. Another strange woman then appears and makes an equally odd request as does another and another. David chooses to work with Nancy and so goes to her place to begin writing the script. Suddenly, her strange Uncle Andre shows up in a panic. It seems he somehow acquired an enormous herd of cattle and must quickly get rid of them. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide
In this screen adaptation of the award-winning play by Herb Gardner (who also directed the film), Nat Moyer (Walter Matthau) and Midge Carter (Ossie Davis) are two elderly men who sit on the same park bench each afternoon and have developed a relationship based on playful verbal sparring. Nat is an eccentric Jewish leftist who uses a dizzying variety of voices and assumed personalities to get his way, while Midge is the African-American superintendent of an apartment building who is afraid that he's going to be put out to pasture, as he's about to turn 80. Nat tries to encourage Midge to join him in his good-natured con games (which are performed for good causes and not for profit), but Midge remains wary. While Midge sweats out a possible retirement, Nat is trying to deal with his daughter Clara (Amy Irving), who wants to put him in a nursing home. Meanwhile, a drug dealer called The Cowboy (Craig T. Nelson) has claimed the park as his own territory, and Nat, impersonating a Mafia don, tries to run him out, while he befriends Laurie (Martha Plimpton), a young woman hooked on dope. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

David (Dan Futterman) is a language expert who knows how to say "I Love You" in fifteen different languages. But he can't seem to bring himself to say it in plain English to his girlfriend of the past two years, Kathy (Susan Floyd), and that's putting their relationship in jeopardy in the romantic drama Breathing Room. Kathy and David have been having a hard time deciding if they should break up or try to work things out between them when, as he joins Kathy for Thanksgiving dinner with her family, she discovers David has applied for a job teaching English at a school in Vietnam. Careerwise, it would be a significant step for David, but Kathy is a bit miffed that he never saw fit to mention it to her before. Meanwhile, Kathy has her own professional dilemmas to deal with as she tries to kick-start her career as an animator. Eventually they decide to take a break from each other until Christmas, with no clear idea of just what they'll do after that. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide
