Produced in Canada for a Canadian and U.S. viewership, the weekly, hour-long drama series Fast Track starred Keith Carradine as Richard Beckett. A former racecar driver, Beckett had become a doctor, working almost exclusively along the speedway circuit and tending to the injuries of his fellow motorists. Naturally, Beckett also got involved with various domestic crises, and occasionally put in time as an amateur detective. The impressive supporting cast included Duncan Regehr as Christian Chandler Jr., Tristan Rogers as Harry, Fred Williamson as Lowell Carter, and Sebastian Spence as Stevie Servine. Arianna (Rae Dawn Chong), a beautiful, decidedly "New Agey" alien in a stylish spacecraft comes in search of the half-human half-alien being her people created as an experiment to see if her kind could live successfully on the Earth. She and her people feel no qualms about taking over the blue planet because its current residents care so little for its delicate ecological balances. No sooner does she land than she is out saving the hide of the handsome Kieran, who just happens to be the man she's seeking. A real back-to-nature-boy, Kieran (Billy Wirth) sports silky long hair, rippling muscles and carries with him a Chinese flute, something he prefers to play with his shirt off. Having found him, it seems that Arianna can simply take him back home, and this low-budget, unintentionally awful sci-fi outing would end, but alas, there is more trouble afoot when Kieran's evil bio-dad shows up to steal his genes for his own nefarious ends. This tepid action adventure mainly serves as a travelogue of tropical Belize. Jeff Richardson (John Savage) is a British secret agent who tries to stop the former CIA agent Whitehale (Stephen McHattie) from dealing powerful explosives. Whitehale blackmails U.S. tourists Helen Williams (Kara Glover) and Rob Forbes (Sam Malkin) into doing his bidding. A priest tries to help a young prostitute escape the life of sex and drugs in this exploitation drama. Father Jack (Chuck Shamata) tries to help 14-year-old Lindsay (Heather Kjollesdal) get off the streets to save her young life. Monsignor O'Brien (Art Carney) becomes concerned when Jack seems to be spending too much time trying to save the girl he believes belongs in a shelter. Lindsay left home after suffering from an incestuous relationship with her father, but now she turns tricks for her sleazy boyfriend Lenny (Daniel MacIvor). Autumn Born would have been long forgotten had it not been for its star. Playboy model Dorothy Stratten plays a young innocent who withstands the cruelties and sexual assaults of her nasty guardian. In one scene, she is handcuffed to a bed, and the camera stays fixed on her for what seems like forever as she struggles to break free. It's that kind of film. Prior to her ill-fated attempt to escape from her own real-life nasty guardian, Paul Snider, Stratten realized that this was the sort of fare she would have spent her life making if she stayed married to him. Anyone who has seen Bob Fosse's Star 80 (in which Autumn Born is alluded to under the title Wednesday's Child) will be all too familiar with the tragic outcome of the Stratten-Snider relationship. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
