In the fifth episode of the six-part story "Planet of the Spiders," the Doctor travels to the planet Metebelis 3, in hopes of rescuing his companion, Sarah (Katy Manning). There he is given an ultimatum: immediately return the precious blue crystal, which he stole from Metebelis during a previous visit, or all mankind will be destroyed. Grimly, the Doctor weighs the alternatives, which include his own likely death once the crystal is given back to its rightful owner, spider-empress the Great One. In the fourth episode of the six-part story "Planet of the Spiders," the crooked Lupton (John Dearth) has stolen the powerful blue crystal coveted by the spider empress of the planet Metebelis 3. The empress' minions take over Lupton's mind, enabling the Doctor (Jon Pertwee), who brought the crystal to Earth in the first place, to determine that mankind will be destroyed unless the precious item is returned to its rightful owner. Meanwhile, Sarah (Katy Manning) is captured and transported to Metebelis 3 as a means of drawing the Doctor out. In the third episode of the six-part story "Planet of the Spiders," three spider-like creatures from Metebelis 3 arrive on earth by way of an English monastery. There mission: To retrieve a powerful blue crystal, previously stolen from them by the Doctor (Jon Pertwee), which is highly coveted by the giant spider empress, the Great One. Unfortunately, the crystal is swiped from the Doctor's friend, Sarah (Elisabeth Sladen), by a crook named Lupton (John Dearth) -- who subsequently loses the valuable artifact to another crook named Tommy (John Kane). All of this has a profound effect on the Doctor, who knows that mankind will be destroyed unless the crystal is returned to its rightful owner. Rat-pack pals Sammy Davis Jr. and Peter Lawford reprise their roles of Charlie Salt and Chris Pepper, respectively, in this film that marks the directorial debut of comedian/writer Jerry Lewis. Lawford also plays Lord Sydney Pepper, the twin brother of Charlie who is a murder victim. Salt and Pepper investigate the crime in this uneven comedy feature. Pepper takes the place of his dead brother and winds up involved in a diamond-smuggling operation. The duo is chased through the bucolic English countryside by Interpol agents and crooks after the stolen gems. Forgotten 20th Century Fox starlet Geneviève Waïte and forgotten "trendy" director Michael Sarne teamed for the eminently forgettable Joanna. Waïte stars as the title character, a swinging London art student who uses up men like other people use Kleenex. Her carefree lifestyle comes to an end when she is impregnated by Gordon (Calvin Lockhart) -- one of the first black-white relationships in a major motion picture. Joanna frequently becomes a musical, notably in the final sequence, in which the heroine joins in a chorus with the entire cast and production crew Donald Sutherland co-stars as one of Joanna's wealthy paramours. The quest for a fortune gold bullion provides the impetus for this adventuresome crime drama set in Southwestern Africa. It all begins with a plane crash. The pilot barely survives. When he awakens he sees that he is near an abandoned, wreck of a wagon. He ends up taken in by a couple who talk about the wagon and its mysterious cargo. Soon after the pilot's return to Johannesburg, he finds that the wagon is purported to have been filled with gold. Excited, he, and others, including his son and his son's girl friend, return to the location and begin their search. Unfortunately, the couple who rescued him lie in wait and take them all hostage. For the second time in the story, the wife attempts to seduce the pilot and was with the first time, the pilot says no. Realizing that she was wrong to have done that, the repentant wife frees the captives, an act that costs her life. Later, the searchers find the treasure, but unfortunately, things are not as they seem to be and violence ensues. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide

British film star Googie Withers took a break from the steamy melodramas that had previously been her specialty in Once Upon a Dream. Withers plays Carol Gilbert, happily married to Major Gilbert (Guy Middleton). One evening, Carol dreams of an extramarital affair with Gilbert's former aide Jackson (Griffin Jones). Upon awakening, she is convinced that the assignation took place, and behaves accordingly, much to the confusion of both her husband and her "lover." More silly than funny, Once Upon a Dream is kept alive by the enthusiastic performances of its leading players. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
