Spanish softcore porn filmmaker Jorge Luís Gigó Aznar directs the 1975 Eurocult horror trash film La Perversa Caricia de Satán (released in the U.S. with the English-language title Devil's Kiss) under the pseudonym of Georges Gigo. Silvia Solar plays a medium who conducts occult experiments with a telepathic doctor (Olivier Mathot). While in the cellar of an old castle, they create a zombie by reviving a dead guy with the soul of Satan. In this intensely Sadean sex-horror film, cult filmmaker Jesus Franco directed himself as Vogel, an insanely paranoid religious fanatic who works as a reporter for a sexy tabloid. Vogel's editor Raymond Franval (Pierre Taylou) and his secretary Anne (Lina Romay) are in charge of secret sadomasochistic sex parties at a jaded noble couple's mansion. Flagellation and torture are the rule of the day at the parties' staged black masses, and when the paranoid Vogel sees one of the events, the paranoid mystic believes it to be real. Thus, he decides to exorcise the demons by running his own personal Inquisition, torturing the home's inhabitants to death. Exorcisme is not entirely successful as horror or pornography, although several different versions exist with varying degrees of both elements, typical of the Eurocine studios' patchwork style. Christine Chireix and David Atta appear in the hardcore version, which replaced important scenes of plot development with more explicit sexual torture sequences. Nadine Pascal, Monica Swinn, Caroline Riviere, and Olivier Mathot co-star in this uneven French-Belgian effort which manages a few surprises despite its shortcomings. ~ Robert Firsching, All Movie Guide

Sacha Guitry's Si Versailles M'Etait Conte (If Versailles Were Told to Me) is best known by its American title Royal Affairs in Versailles. In addtion to writing and directed the film, Guitry reserves for himself the plum role of Louis XIV. Concentrating on the palace of Versailles over a period of 300 years, the storyline concentrates on the various amorous and political intrigues of three French kings. The plot manages to wend its way through the French revolution, coming to a halt in "the present". The star-studded supporting cast includes Jean Marais as Louis XV, Claudette Colbert as Mme. Montespan, Micheline Presle as Mme. Pompadour, and, best of all, Orson Welles as a gouty Ben Franklin. Most currently available prints of Si Versailles M'Etait Conte are severely edited, and fail to do justice to the rich Eastmancolor hues of the original version. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
