In Scandinavia to receive a prize for his scientific research, Peter Brady discovers that the ceremony's guest of honor, Eastern Bloc author Tania Raskoff (played by future film director Mai Zetterling), has been arrested by minions of her government. Inasmuch as he has the power of invisibility, Brady encounters little difficulty in locating Tania's hiding place. But rescuing her is another matter entirely--especially since the hideway is surrounded by a mine field. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
House of the Arrow is the third film version of the classic A.E.W. Mason mystery novel. A wealthy French widow is poisoned in her home. Inspector Hanaud (Oscar Homolka), a Columbo-like methodical detective, investigates. Far be it from us to reveal the murderer, but we can reveal the method of murder--an arrow, tipped in poison. One advantage the 1953 version of House of the Arrow has over the first versions is the bluff, hearty presence of Oscar Homolka, who could entertain an audiences by reading the want ads if he so desired. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
Jennifer (Janette Scott) is the 12-year-old daughter of divorcing couple William (Leo Genn) and Paula (Beatrice Campbell). Though both parents profess their love for Jennifer, both mentally abuse the poor girl during the custody tug-of-war. Unable to withstand the pressure, Jennifer runs away from home. She ultimately finds happiness with another family, where game-playing is not part of the agenda. Based on No Difference to Me, a novel by Phyllis Hambleton, No Place for Jennifer concentrates more on the sentimental aspects of the story than its does on the psychological effect a divorce has on an innocent child. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
