Michel Piccoli is irresistibly slimy in the role of a conniving attorney. Making the acquaintance of two lovely sisters (Romy Schneider and Andrea Ferreol), Piccoli seduces them both. He then invites the sisters into his latest scam: marrying and murdering gullible men and women, then cheating their insurance companies. The noirish intrigues of Infernal Trio are all the more remarkable in that they are based on a true story. It shouldn't be too surprising to first-year French students that the original title of this French/Italian melodrama was Le Trio Infernal. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

This comedy concerns an inventor (Robert Dhery) of a boat who is fired by his violent, irascible boss when the project is completed. The boat, christened Le Petit Baigneur, is wanted by the Boss (Louis De Funes), who pulls out all the stops to possess the coveted craft. Author-actor-director Dhery wrote this story especially for the comedic styling of De Funes, one of Frances most popular comedians at the time of the feature's release. His "slow burn" is reminiscent of American actor James Finlayson, who perfected the technique in the silent-film era and continued his success in countless films, usually being tormented by the antics of Laurel and Hardy. ~ Dan Pavlides, All Movie Guide

This light comedy finds an inept reporter keeping his job only because his uncle owns the paper he works for. He is assigned to cover the story of a woman giving birth to sextuplets on a small island off the coast of France. The gullible reporter is given a false story, by a social worker, that Martians have landed on the island. When he prints the story, the island is besieged with visitors and curiosity seekers. Among the visitors are two beings from another planet who really believe their interplanetary brethren have arrived. The sextuplets are born, but the reporter is fired. He missed two really big scoops that have the newborns taken away in a spaceship by their father, a real alien. A giant dinosaur-like creature emerges from the watery depths of the ocean to see what all the fuss is about. In this French comedy, one little white lie leads to a series of whoppers as a Frenchman visiting London soon discovers. The French fellow has gone to London with his friends to catch a soccer match. He then must go to the dentist where, just for fun, he puts on a British policeman's uniform. Dressed as a bobby, he scares away some robbers. Unfortunately, he cannot tell them the truth because he is embarrassed to open his mouth and reveal the two teeth he lost at the soccer match. A chase ensues. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide

Henri (Robert Dhery) joins a group of rowdy soccer fans who travel from France to London two days before he is supposed to be married, and he goes to the dentist after his two front teeth are knocked out in a melee with rival fans. Sight gags include a busload of drunken fans trying to evade the police in a rare working combination of Gallic and British humor. Roger Hanin plays "The Gorilla" in Deadly Decoy. No, he doesn't have elongated arms or hair all over his body. The Gorilla is a top secret agent, famed for his strength and dexterity. His assignment this time around is to prevent a political assassination. He expedites this by setting himself up as the target. Director Jean-Pierre Mocky takes jabs at the arrogant attitudes of the social and corporate elite in this routine satire about four men vying for control of a company. After the president of a dairy cooperative accidentally drowns, rather ignominiously, a quartet of vice-presidents start to compete for the top position. The ones who are married are aided and abetted by their wives, and their main combative tactic is to downgrade their opponents in any way they can. Meanwhile, a local woman is in love with them and seems to be the only citizen around not corrupted or venal. During this farcical process, everyone gets sent up -- from the Boy Scouts to retired military men. In this French variation on Mark Twain's Man with a Million story, a man's life is completely changed by the acquisition of a new car. Marcel, a Chaplainesque factory worker, sets out to buy an old motorcycle and ends up getting a new Cadillac convertible (the "beautiful American" of the title) for $100. He loses his job and suffers other misadventures, but is then amazed at how people treat him when they learn he owns the prestigious vehicle.
