In this Stephen Cannell-produced pilot for a potential TV detective series, Mac Davis plays an ex-highway patrolman and Joseph Cortese an ex-trucker, related by marriage. Their wives were twin sisters--were, because in addition to all the other "ex" qualifications in their lives, Davis and Cortese are ex-husbands. Still pals after their group divorce, the boys become private eyes. Their first case is to get the goods on a shady tycoon (Robert Culp), who happens to be their former father-in-law. Confronting the girl, Luke finds that she has an airtight alibi: she was with his cousin Bo (John Schneider) when the heist took place. Convinced that someone is lying, Luke and Bo have a serious falling out--little realizing that they have both been flummoxed by a pair of attractive twin sisters (Randi Brough, Candi Brough. Louise Lasser reprises her role as Phyllis, ex-wife of cab driver Alex Rieger (Judd Hirsch). Showing up at the garage in hopes of a brief reconciliation, lonely Phyllis finds out that Alex is unavailable -- so she promptly comes on to Louie (Danny DeVito). By the time Alex finds out about this, Louie has revealed a lot more of himself than he planned -- literally so! Also in the cast are twin actresses Randi and Candi Brough, best known for their work in the comedy adventure series B.J. and the Bear. ~ Rovi

This is a crazy horror-film spoof in which the enthusiastic leads provide laughs just by the strength of their characterizations alone -- and because they are obviously having fun. Oliver Reed is Dr. Heckyl whose lumpy face is so ugly it has kept women away in droves. He works at a podiatrist's clinic and one day attempts suicide by quaffing a whole bottle of a weight-loss elixir. The result? Dr. Heckyl becomes Mr. Hype, the suave ladies man. The only problem is that Mr. Hype is evil incarnate, his urge to kill is greater than any other urge, and so he remains as virginal as ever as he leaves a trail of victims behind. Jeff Altman makes his first appearance as Boss Hogg's nephew Hughie, not yet the shifty schemer he'd become in later episode, but here the relatively honest temporary sheriff of Hazzard County (regular sheriff Roscoe does not appear because series costar James Best was sitting the episode out, protesting against working conditions on the set). In his first official act, Hughie arrests Jesse Duke (Denver Pyle) on a carstripping charge, little realizing that the actual culprits are a gang of female crooks in league with his own Uncle Boss. Featuring among the shapely miscreants are twin actresses Randi Brough and Candi Brough, who decorated many a comedy and adventure series of the era.
