Blood Ties began life as a 4-hour Italian TV movie. The American version, which premiered December 14, 1986 on the Showtime Cable network, runs 125 minutes, and "runs" is the right word. Brad Davis plays an American naval engineer with familial ties to Sicily. Before he can offer a protest, Davis is sucked into the murderous machinations of the mafia. He is expected to win the confidence of his crimefighting Sicilian cousin Tony Lo Bianco-and then murder him. If Davis fails, his own father's life is forfeit. Don't expect any last-minute rescues or easy outs in this one. Featured in the cast are Maria Conchita Alonso and Ricky Tognazzi, son of Ugo. Reminiscent in all ways to a "B" movie, this stock-in-trade story is about a young southern Italian who likes off-track betting and cannot hold down a job -- until he becomes a house servant to a man he admires very much. Life is idyllic until some gangsters ask the ex-con house servant to kill off his boss for money. Cult director Massimo Dallamano made this surprisingly tedious thriller about a murder-for-hire plot. Lisa (Luciana Paluzzi) is the trampy wife of a jealous detective named Franz (John Mills), who has underworld connections from his job on the narcotics squad. Lisa's shady background and promiscuous habits drive Franz to a homicidal rage, so he hires a hitman (Robert Hoffmann) to murder her. As so often is the case in films about hired killers, the hitman falls in love with Lisa and helps her to double-cross Franz. Predictable and dull, this standard genre effort is below Dallamano's usual standards, and it features a dreadful musical score by Giovanni Fusco which only adds to the disappointment. ~ Robert Firsching, All Movie Guide

It's Your Move (Uno Scacco Tutto Matto) stars Edward G. Robinson as MacDowell, a dilettante criminal who masterminds a fantastic bank heist. MacDowell exploits the fact that his butler's niece Monique (Maria Grazia Buccella) is the exact double of the bank president's secretary. Hiring three additional "doubles" for the bank's employees, MacDowell goes about the task of comically kidnapping the "originals" right under the noses of the bank directors. He then schemes to rob the joint while making it seem as though no money has changed hands. Confusing? Most American distributors thought so, which may explain why It's Your Move never received a US theatrical release.
