Carefully side-stepping a full condemnation of Italy's notorious, 1980's cult leader Ebe Giorgini, this docudrama tells the story of her rise to religious power from the point of view of a distraught father of one of Ebe's cult members. The father was never around to develop much of a relationship with his daughter, and for that reason she has taken up as a novitiate with "Mamma Ebe," whose dubious lifestyle includes two husbands, at least one probable lover, and champagne cruises on her yacht. Worse than these private details of her life are the examples of sadistic physical abuse that millionaire "Mamma Ebe" meted out to her charges when she was displeased by their actions, or the fact that she makes her novitiates work 18-hour days. After this docudrama wrapped, Ebe Giorgini was sentenced to serve time for her activities, a sentence later commuted to house arrest. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide

In this comedy-drama about human foibles, the aftermath of war undoubtedly has something to do with the behavior and feelings of the people living in a small Hungarian village. The lives of the villagers are seen through the eyes of David (Laszlo Mate), an orphaned Jewish boy who has come to settle here. Dukay (Istvan Bujtor) is the official who handles remnants of live ammunition and weapons left over from the war -- a danger that is brought home later when some innocent children begin playing with an unexploded shell. Other characters include Mr. Fodo (Jean-Louis Trintignant), an ill-tempered schoolteacher whose wife leaves him; Lajos Acsi (Jean Rochefort) a friend who once owned land in the region and now just wanders aimlessly; Peter Fekete (Miklos B. Szekely) and his wife, the owners of the two black buffalos; and a particularly vicious cemetery caretaker. One of the casualties in this story is the script, which provides a wealth of characters and details but not much to cogently tie them together. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide

Where Is Parsifal? -- he (Tony Curtis) is in a castle surrounded by nutcakes, himself a hypochondriac who has invented a laser skywriter and wants to sell the patent for his invention to millionaire Henry Board II (Erik Estrada) or to wealthy gypsy Klingsor (Orson Welles). The castle crew are in a frenzy because Mackintosh (Donald Pleasence) is trying to confiscate their belongings to get them out of debt, but Henry II is coming over for dinner, and they need their belongings to impress him, not to mention feed him. Frenetic as though running on amphetamines, this film has tried to replace funny with fast, but it just does not work. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide

- Tony Curtis, Cassandra Domenica, (more)

This action adventure is based on Jules Verne's The Light at the Edge of the World. It takes place in 1865 on the chilly tip of Argentina in a lighthouse set up to guide ships around the extremely dangerous and turbulent waters of Cape Horn. The lighthouse keeper (Fernando Rey) and his assistant go out to investigate when a strange sailing ship comes too near to the island the lighthouse is on. Denton (Kirk Douglas), the lighthouse keeper's North American apprentice, is left behind. For their pains, the lighthouse keeper and his assistant are killed, and Kongre (Yul Brynner), the ship's pirate captain, goes to the lighthouse and captures Denton. Kongre shuts down the real lighthouse and sets up a false one so that his pirates can prey on the busy ships that must pass nearby. Denton, set loose by his captors on a nearby island, eventually begins to fight back. ~ Clarke Fountain, All Movie Guide
