Documentary filmmaker Rachel Perkins directed this Australian drama, scripted by Louis Nowra from his own play about three sisters who reunite at the family home during the 24 hours following their mother's funeral -- the youngest sister, man-hungry Nona (Deborah Mailman), and lonely, bitter Mae (Trisha Morton-Thomas), who resents the success of the oldest sister, Cressy (Rachael Maza). When the three learn the family home will be reclaimed by the owner and their mother's lover, they decide to torch the house. The Alistair Jones music score includes aboriginal chanting. ~ Bhob Stewart, Rovi

In 1976, Australian filmmaker Gillian Armstrong made Smokes and Lollies, a documentary profiling the lives, thoughts and feelings of three rambunctious, rebellious working class 14-year-old girls. Four years later, Armstrong returned to the girls' hometown, Adelaide, and made another documentary about them Fourteen's Good, Eighteen's Better (1981). In 1988, she returned once again to make Bingo, Bridesmaids and Braces. Not Fourteen Again is the final, fascinating entry in the series. By now, the girls Josie, Diana and Kerry, have become stable, busy mothers of their own teenage daughters, something that provides Armstrong with interesting contrasts as she combines the thoughts of the new generation with those of their mothers back in '76. In the end, Armstrong hosts a special dinner for the women and their families to celebrate their changes. ~ Sandra Brennan, Rovi

A young woman makes a difficult choice and becomes an adult in this Australian melodrama. The young woman is Meg, a small-town girl who has fallen in love with Sam. Their relationship is threatened when Sam decides to head for the big city to work on his career, and she elects to stay in familiar surroundings. After Sam leaves, she finds herself involved with Sam's buddy, Johnny. The trouble really begins when Sam abruptly returns during the town's Anzac Day celebrations. He tries to woo her back, but she publicly rejects Sam. Despite this, Meg is also not sure she wants to stay with Johnny even though a rumor is circulating that she and he are to be married. She is further tempted by Peg, a local waitress with a reputation, who wants Meg to forget about the two suitors and head for the city with her where they can both find better lives. Meanwhile Sam and Johnny have become arch rivals as they vie for her affection. The bored townsfolk continually egg them on. The rivalry climaxes with a dangerous car chase which ends in a draw. Though Sam decides to bow out, the trouble is not yet over and before the evening's end, one of the young men will lose his life protecting the other. ~ Sandra Brennan, Rovi

In this standard auto-racing-mixed-with-murder tale from Down Under, a gang steals and then strips cars to sell the parts for profit but meets their match when they literally run into Steve, a young racecar driver, and some tow-truck operators. From that point onward, mangled metal appears on the scene regularly, as Steve pursues his career as well as the people who caused his own father's disappearance. Steve has some help from his father's partner Tom (Max Cullen), and his two pit-stop mechanics (Bruce Spence and David Argue), but his love interest Ruth (Gia Carides) is only a token woman in a nearly all-male world. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, Rovi
