A discredited journalist (Daniel Craig) and a mysterious computer hacker discover that even the wealthiest families have skeletons in their closets while working to solve the mystery of a 40-year-old murder in this David Fincher-directed remake of the 2009 Swedish thriller of the same name. Inspired by late author Stieg Larsson's successful trilogy of books, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo gets under way as the two leads (Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara) are briefed in the disappearance of Harriet Vanger, whose uncle suspects she may have been killed by a member of their own family. The deeper they dig for the truth, however, the greater the risk of being buried alive by members of the family, who will go to great lengths to keep their secrets tightly sealed. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

In celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Lumière brothers' first films, filmmakers Sarah Moon and Philippe Poulet challenged 39 renowned international directors to each complete a 52-second film using the original Cinematographe camera under the conditions endured by the brothers. The result of the project was this film, Lumière et Compagnie. The film stock used was homemade from a slightly altered version of the Lumières' recipe. No synchronized sound was allowed and only natural lighting was permitted. The participating directors included John Boorman, Costa-Gavras, Peter Greenaway, Lasse Hallström, Spike Lee, David Lynch, Liv Ullmann, and Wim Wenders. Among the actors who performed in the films were Liam Neeson, Lena Olin, Aidan Quinn, and Alan Rickman. ~ Matthew Tobey, Rovi

The famous literature professor Martin Lamm (Max von Sydow) has an overprotective wife (Mai Zetterling) who guards him as though he were a national treasure (which he is) and extremely fragile (which he is not). Into this tense but loving household comes the professor's grandson Göran (Carl Svenson), whose divorced parents are too busy to cope with him. Despite the rather grim daytime regime, at night, when his grandmother isn't looking, the boy and his grandfather sneak out of the house for some modest adventures. One day the professor discovers that he has put the wrong letters into the wrong envelopes, and the two of them have an even more extensive and lengthy adventure that takes them all over Stockholm, an adventure which prompts worry on the part of the entire family. ~ Clarke Fountain, Rovi

Maj Sjöwall and Per Wahlöö are writers of a series of immensely popular "police procedurals," or novels in which the police, while carefully following their own real-life rules and procedures, solve a crime or close a case. Many of these novels have been translated into English, and they have done respectable business in the U.S. In this film, the chase is on when a fatal fire leads the police to suspect a drug group. ~ Clarke Fountain, Rovi

This is the fourth in a series of films based on the police detective novels of Maj Sjowall and Per Wahloo. In this story, the police only have one witness to a series of crimes which have electrified the country, the rape and murder of a number of beautiful young women. Unfortunately, the witness is not terribly willing to come forward to assist the police since he is wanted in conjuction with the violent robberies he has committed. The police are assisted in their investigations by a beautiful psychologist (Magdalena Ritter), who helps them get a bead on both perpetrators. ~ Clarke Fountain, Rovi
