Gary Lucchesi Movies
Over the course of the '80s and '90s, and into the first decade of the millennium, omnipotent Hollywood producer Gary Lucchesi quickly built a name and established a track record for himself as one of Tinseltown's most prolific and eminently successful green-lighters. Lucchesi began where so many Hollywood execs do, as an agent at William Morris in Los Angeles, where he repped multimillion-dollar A-listers in the mid-'80s, such as Susan Sarandon, Kevin Costner, Michelle Pfeiffer, and John Malkovich. Lucchesi later accepted a position at TriStar, several years after its 1982 establishment, where he worked as VP and Senior VP of Production, and quickly moved to the hallowed halls of Paramount, where he became President of Production -- a title he inherited from Robert Evans and Barry Diller. While there, he supervised the output of blockbusters that totaled two billion dollars in revenue, including Fatal Attraction (1987), The Untouchables (1987), Coming to America (1988), The Naked Gun (1988), Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989), and Ghost (1990).Lucchesi's success at Paramount helped him found Gary Lucchesi Productions, Inc. in the early '90s, where his output straddled the line between megaplexes and pay cable; his big-screen ventures under this banner included Jennifer Eight (1992), Virtuosity (1995), and Primal Fear (1996, for which supporting actor Edward Norton received an Academy Award nomination). Lucchesi also oversaw the production of the seriocomic Breast Men (1997) and Vendetta (1999) for HBO and Wild Iris (2001) for Showtime.
Lucchesi subsequently became prexy of Lakeshore Entertainment, where he has executive produced such multimillion-dollar blockbusters as Underworld (2003), The Exorcism of Emily Rose (2005), and Underworld: Evolution (2006). Most noteworthy during this period was Lucchesi's role in executive producing the Clint Eastwood project Million Dollar Baby for Warners and Malpaso -- a motion picture that not only became the sleeper hit of the year (and spun box-office gold) but netted the 2004 Best Picture Oscar. Following Emily Rose, Lucchesi oversaw Crank, a high-testosterone action thriller in the vein of Rudolph Maté's D.O.A. The picture stars Jason Statham as a hitman who is lethally poisoned and carries out a violent rampage through the urban jungle of Los Angeles before his time runs out.
In 2006, Lucchesi signed on to produce two films that would be directed by Robert Benton, with whom Lucchesi previously worked, on The Human Stain [2003]: The Feast of Love, an adaptation of a 2000 Charles Baxter novel about an Oregon romance, and Appointment in Samarra, an adaptation of John O'Hara's novel, with a script by Benton, about a couple in Gibbsville, PA, that slips from most-envied to town embarrassment when the husband spirals into self-destruction. He also produced the Zach Braff dramedy The Last Kiss, a film about the search for meaning in life, costarring Blythe Danner, Tom Wilkinson, and Casey Affleck. ~ Nathan Southern, All Movie Guide
Based on the animated series by Peter Chung, Aeon Flux imagines a future in which 99 percent of the world's population is killed through industrial disease, and the survivors live in a single city that, despite utopian appearances, is quite totalitarian. Disinclined to embrace any particular ideology outside of a hatred for Trevor Goodchild (Marton Csokas), the leader of the council that governs the walled city, hyper-sexualized assassin Aeon Flux (Charlize Theron) seeks to bring about a revolution. Retaining the title character's trademark jet-black hair and sleek, revealing clothing, this film adaptation fleshes out the story behind the sexual and romantic tension between Aeon and Trevor. ~ Cammila Albertson, All Movie Guide

This docudrama recaps the history of silicone breast implants, beginning in 1962 when idealistic Houston medical resident Kevin Saunders (David Schwimmer) gets an idea after seeing how women pad their bras. After he shares his notion with cosmetic pro Dr. William Larson (Chris Cooper), the two create a prosthetic breast from Dow-Corning's silicone gel. Approaching women on the street fails to bring volunteers, but a classified newspaper ad does the trick. As breast sizes increase, so do the doctors' bank accounts. However, physical problems emerge, followed by lawsuits, and the high life soon turns sour and grim. The indestructible hopped-up hitman Chev Chelios, played to the hilt once again by Jason Statham, returns in Crank High Voltage, picking up where the first film left off -- except this time, Chelios is chasing a Chinese gangster who hijacked his heart and substituted it with a mechanical one that needs to be jolted with an electric charge to stay pumping. Back for the fun is Chev's girlfriend Eve (my Smart) and his physician Doc Miles (Dwight Yoakam), who, as luck has it, turns out to be an ex-heart surgeon. As Chelios delves deeper into the mystery surrounding his stolen heart, he discovers that the answers to his questions lie within the chest of a 100-year old head of the Triad gang, Poon Dong (David Carradine. Reality and video games merge in this high-concept sci-fi action thriller from Crank creators Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor. Gotti is the semi-biographical tale of John Gotti, the infamous crime boss of the Gambino mob family. This drama chronicles not only the bloody rise of Gotti, also known as the "Dapper Don", but the FBI's struggle to bring him to justice. His refusal to play by the normal "rules" of the mafia ultimately became the mobster's achilles heel; the FBI eventually persuaded assassin Sammy "The Bull" Gravano to testify against his ungrateful, paranoid boss, who was finally imprisoned in 1982. Gotti is based in part on a book written by Jerry Capeci and Gene Mustain titled Mob Star: The Story of John Gotti. Gotti, directed by Robert Harmon stars Armand Assante as the complicated mafia lord, and also features actors Anthony Quinn and William Forsythe. Stressed out LA detective John Berlin gets too near the edge following the destruction of his marriage and decides to leave the violence an un-ending hub-bub of the big city and take a job in the supposedly quiet northern tow of Eureka. As he steps up his investigation, Berlin finds himself falling for Helena. Meanwhile, he has become so obsessed with finding the killer that pal Ross begins worrying that Berlin is having a breakdown and so goes with him on a late night surveillance of Helena's school. Frankie Dunn (Clint Eastwood) is a veteran boxing trainer who has devoted his life to the ring and has precious little to show for it; his daughter never answers his letters, and a fighter he's groomed into contender status has paid him back by signing with another manager, leaving Frankie high and dry. His best friend and faithful employee Eddie Dupris is a former fighter who Frankie trained. In his last fight, Eddie suffered a severe injury, a fact that brings Frankie great guilt. One day, Maggie Fitzgerald (Hilary Swank) enters Frankie's life, as well as his gym, and announces she needs a trainer. Frankie regards her as a dubious prospect, and isn't afraid to tell her why: he doesn't think much of women boxing, she's too old at 31, she lacks experience, and has no technique. However, Maggie sees boxing as the one part of her life that gives her meaning and won't give up easily. Finally won over by her determination, Frankie takes on Maggie, and as she slowly grows into a viable fighter, an emotional bond develops between them. When a tragedy befalls one of the three characters, each comes to a decision that shows how the relationships in the film have changed them. Adapted from a short story by F.X. They regularly select one of their members (on a rotational basis) to commit the "perfect murder," while the rest use forensic methods to try to determine exactly how the homicide was executed. A high-profile slaying becomes the case of an ambitious attorney's career in this legal thriller based on the novel by William Diehl. Covered with blood, Aaron was captured after a foot chase broadcast live on TV, making a gleeful Vail certain that he could raise his profile by defending the obviously guilty suspect. Now the cynical, opportunistic attorney is faced with a daunting prospect, a client who may actually deserve his best defense. Roberts plays Maggie, who has left so many prospective husbands at the altar that she has gained notoriety as "the Runaway Bride," and a reporter (played by Richard Gere) is assigned to write a story about her. He tracks her down to a small town in Maryland where she's spending time with her family and preparing to give marriage another try. However, the more time she spends with the persistent reporter, the more second thoughts she has about her fiancé (Christopher Meloni). Directed by E. Elias Merhige, Suspect Zero follows the disgraced FBI Agent Thomas Mackelway (Aaron Eckhart), who was transferred to a desolate area in Albuquerque, New Mexico as punishment for botching a procedure which ultimately led to the release of one of the most notorious criminals on the FBI's list. Mackelway is given an opportunity to redeem himself, however, when he is called in to investigate the strange murder of a traveling salesman. Mysteriously, the mark of a circle with a line through it is the only clue that the killer left behind. Before long, the prime suspect is identified as former agent Benjamin O'Ryan (Ben Kingsley), who is seemingly obsessed with hunting down serial killers and murdering them rather than turning them in to the proper authorities. Though Mackelway believes he knows the area where O'Ryan (Kingsley) is living, he has no idea what he looks like -- a problem that the rogue agent exploits with great success. Despite his brilliance, Mackelway finds himself caught in a psychological labyrinth of sorts, and is faced with an even greater quandary after learning that O'Ryan is looking for none other than Suspect Zero, a murderer of hundreds and the FBI's most wanted man. While on a dig in a Romanian forest, a group of scientists make a startling find -- they find a huge abbey, dating back to the 13th Century, which was built over the entrance to a massive network of subterranean caves. Eager to learn what lurks within the caves, the scientists discover to their peril that a large part of the cave system is under water. Undeterred, the remaining scientists hire a team of American spelunkers who are trained in exploring underwater caves, led by brothers Jack (Cole Hauser) and Tyler (Eddie Cibrian). Armed with new high-tech SCUBA gear that allows them to stay under water for a full 24 hours, Jack, Tyler, and the rest of their crew dive in to investigate the caves, but a mishap traps them in a cavern beneath the surface, and they soon discover they are not alone, as strange and bloodthirsty creatures make their presence known.
