To those who have grown up with the radio and TV versions of the old Lone Ranger series, this retro TV-movie adaptation will appear as if it has just landed from another planet. Gone are such familiar trappings as "The William Tell Overture," the bushwhacking Butch Cavendish Gang, the title character's backstory as a genuine Texas Ranger, and faithful Indian companion Tonto's Pidgin English. Instead, the viewer is offered a wall-to-wall rock score; a twentysomething hunk of a Boston law student named Luke Hartman (Sebastian Spence) who morphs into the Lone Ranger; an equally youthful and remarkably articulate Tonto (Nathaniel Arcand) who dabbles in mysticism and has a hottie sister named Alope (Anita Brown); authentic 19th century dialogue such as "I love you guys!"; and even a skinny-dipping sequence. Yes, the Lone Ranger still rides a white stallion named Silver and fills his guns with silver bullets; yes, he still sports a mask; and yes, he dedicates his life to being a "champion of justice" after the brutal murder of his Ranger brother. An artist struggles against the vulgarity of the film industry and the eccentricities of his friends and loved ones in this independent comedy. Caleb (Bradford Tatum) is a promising sculptor who is contacted by noted filmmaker Richard Verk (Kelsey Grammer) with an unusual assignment -- he needs someone to construct a prosthesis of a woman's genitals for an upcoming project. This is the last sort of job Caleb is looking for, but the pay is good and with a house payment due, he swallows his pride and accepts the offer. Caleb's girlfriend Erica (Meredith Scott Lynn) is not at all pleased; an aspiring actress, she has serious issues with the film industry's sexual objectification of women, and prefers not to be confronted with a symbol of this when she comes home at night. It doesn't help that Caleb and Erica's sex life has been in something of a slump and they've been quarrelling about their physical needs -- or that their new neighbor Camille (Lauren Fox) is obviously infatuated with Caleb. Meanwhile, Caleb's friend Jason (Jason Priestly) has problems of his own; his significant other of all of two days is pregnant, and just when he decided he liked the idea of bringing up baby, she decides to have an abortion. Prue (Shannen Doherty) experiences curiously maternal feelings as she endeavors to rescue a young male witch (David Netter), who has been kidnapped in order to assist in a bank robbery -- and whose whereabouts remain a total mystery. Elsewhere, Phoebe (Alyssa Milano) discovers what the viewers of Charmed have known for weeks: handyman Leo Wyatt (Brian Krause) is really a "Whitelighter," assigned to act as guardian angel for all good witches (like the Halliwells). A wife and mother from Billings, Montana takes a stand against a white supremacist hate group in Not In This Town. Tammy Schnitzer (Kathy Baker) and her husband Brian (Adam Arkin) hope to raise two young children in the quiet town. Henry Whitcomb (Ed Begley Jr.) leads the hate group into distributing their ant-Semitic and racially intolerant ideology through handbills. She becomes a target of the sinister group when she forms the Montana Coalition for Human Rights. Brian, a respected dentist, fears for his wife's safety but backs away from involvement until a brick goes through the window of the children's bedroom. Newly appointed police chief Wayne Inman (Max Gail) is the white man married to a black woman who moved to Montana to escape the big-city problems of racism. Inman helps Tammy in her cause as both families become the target of the hate mongers. Originally made for the Sci-Fi Channel, this intergalactic thriller offers yet another riff on the themes from Alien. The terror begins when it's discovered that "Galileo's Child," an ancient moon, has spun from its orbit and is rapidly whirling towards Earth. To save the planet, a band of brave miners set off to land upon the rogue moon and to engineer a means by which it can safely be turned away from Earth. To accomplish this, the miners must create a series of great tunnels into "Galileo's" surface. Unfortunately, in so doing, they uncover a great tomb, the once-secure burial site of an unspeakable alien terror that only needs contact with the moon's nitrogen atmosphere to reawaken and ravenously comb the little planet for fresh meat. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide

Vulgar, slapstick comedy abounds in this feature film debut for television sitcom star Kelsey Grammer. Almost everyone else thinks of Lieutenant Commander Tom Dodge is a class "A" goof who messes up every task he is assigned, but Adm. Dean Winslow thinks otherwise and decides to give Dodge one last chance by assigning him to helm an outmoded, diesel powered, rusty in a series of wargames. Dodge's sub is to be the enemy and must somehow outsmart their high tech opponents. This B-movie from director Rodman Flender (The Unborn) was originally broadcast on Showtime's Roger Corman Presents series. Joan Severance stars as a cop who becomes a leather-clad superhero named Black Scorpion when her father is murdered in a barroom shooting. The murder is part of a seemingly random crimewave engineered by an asthmatic villain called the Breathtaker, who wears a big metal suit like comic book bad-guy Dr. Doom. Breathtaker is planning to turn the whole city into his wheezing slaves by way of poisoned gas masks, and Severance must stop him. In between, she gets former car-thief Argyle (Saturday Night Live alumnus Garrett Morris) to build her a super Scorpion-mobile and tries to keep her identity secret from former partner/lover Bruce Abbott (Re-Animator). ~ Robert Firsching, All Movie Guide

This unusual modern-day fable concerns a super-powered teenager who inspires nothing but hostility in the small-minded folk of his hometown. Sean Patrick Flanery stars as Jeremy Reed, nicknamed "Powder" because he is an albino. Powder has been living his entire 16 years in his grandparents' basement, but they have both passed away. The boy is removed from his home and placed in a school. There, science teacher Ripley (Jeff Goldblum) and psychologist Jessie Caldwell (Mary Steenburgen) discover that in addition to being an albino, their new student is the smartest person who ever lived with an IQ off the charts -- and that he is electrically super-charged, which renders him hairless. Powder also has miraculous powers of perception, ESP, and healing, which he uses to ease the death of the terminally ill wife of local Sheriff Barnum (Lance Henriksen) and to give a bigoted redneck hunter (Brandon Smith) a firsthand demonstration of the pain suffered by a deer he's just shot. Powder's gentle nature attracts a pretty coed, Lindsey (Missy Crider), but in spite of his Christ-like demeanor, Powder's abnormalities inspire hatred on the part of many bigoted citizens, especially school bully John Box (Bradford Tatum). ~ Karl Williams, All Movie Guide

Morrissey (Conor O'Farrell) is handling a case involving several seemingly random stabbings, Fancy can't help but notice that Morrissey is getting positive results. And speaking of "positive," that's the same verdict reached in Sylvia's (Sharon Lawrence) pregnancy test. Though it was also released as Tack's Chicks, The Stoned Age is a more accurate summation of this engagingly sloppy "head" movie. The protagonists are Joe (Michael Kopelow) and Hubbs (Bradford Tatum), who are obsessed with an unending quest for beautiful girls and nonstop sex. In the course of a single night, the boys are introduced to several willing lovelies by a fella named Tack (Clifton Gonzalez-Gonzalez).
