A husband and wife are both tempted into infidelity, but they have more in common than they'd imagine in this comedy drama from German filmmaker Tom Tykwer. Hanna (Sophie Rois) and Simon (Sebastian Schipper) are a married couple in their early forties; she's the host of a television talk show and he's an engineer. Though Hanna and Simon get along well, the spark has clearly gone out of their relationship and both find themselves casually fantasizing about other people. When Hanna meets Adam (Devid Striesow), a handsome scientist with a background in genetics, she finds herself powerfully attracted to him, and they begin having an affair. This happens as Simon is struggling with the death of his mother and the news that he has testicular cancer. After surgery returns him to health, Simon is enjoying a swim at a public pool when he meets Adam; while Simon has never been attracted to men before, something about Adam strikes a connection within him, and before long the two are involved with one another. Adam has no idea that Hanna and Simon are married, and neither Simon nor Hanna realize that their spouse is also being unfaithful, but how long can this go on before the three parties all understand what's happening? Drei (aka Three) received its North American premiere at the 2010 Toronto International Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

A turning point in 20th century war history is the focus of this fact-based account of the 1942-1943 battle of Stalingrad, in which the Germans were finally defeated by Russian influence -- one of the bloodiest battles in World War II history. The film stars Jude Law as Vassili, a marksman from the Urals who is transported to Stalingrad in 1942, and a master German sniper, Major Koenig (Ed Harris). Koenig, an expert German sniper, is determined to eliminate his formidable opponent by any means necessary; meanwhile, Vassili has joined forces with Danilov (Joseph Fiennes), a young Russian political adversary, who is impressed by Vassili's skills and raises his profile in the Soviet Union. Both Vassili and Danilov become involved with Tanya (Rachel Weisz), whose Jewish parents have been captured by the Germans and have forced her to take up with the men on a sniper expedition. Koenig and Vassili begin to develop traps for each other, until fate inevitably must bring the two sharpshooters together. This large-scale production, financed mostly by Teuton companies, also features Bob Hoskins as Nikita Krushchev and Ron Perlman as an aging Russian sniper. ~ Jason Clark, Rovi

A new wrinkle in the eternal battle between good and evil forms the basis for the comedy Liebe Deine Naechste!/Love Your Neighbor!. Lt. Josephine (Lea Mornar) is a new soldier with the Salvation Army, and she's sent on a mission to save souls and do good works in Berlin, paired with her new associate, Lt. Isolde (Heike Makatsch). Berlin proves to be bigger, dirtier and more frightening than they expected, and the mission where they stay is an ominous hovel populated by alcoholic ne'er-do-wells. Not long after they arrive, the pair encounter Tristan (Moritz Bleibtreu), a powerful and morally-elastic management consultant who takes one look at Jospehine and immediately sees her as a piece of property he'd like to acquire. So will evil triumph over virtue -- specifically Josephine's virtue? Liebe Deine Naechste!/Love Your Neighbor! was the third feature from noted German director Detlev Buck. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

Most funny movies don't come across well in print, but with some the humor is almost impossible to discern in written form. This well-received German farce reportedly had its audiences in stitches. The clue, if there is one is in the performances of Joachim Król and Horst Krause as Rudi and Most Kipp, an ill-matched set of illiterate brothers on their way to investigate an inheritance from their grandmother in a formerly inacessible part of (east) Germany on the Russian border. While they are traveling there, they pick up Viktor (Konstantin Kotljarov), a hitchhiking Russian army deserter who is packing a large submachine gun and speaks not one word of German. When this odd trio drives into a confrontation with a batch or robbers, they fend them off a bit too enthusiastically, and soon they are being chased by the police. ~ Clarke Fountain, Rovi

Robby (Dani Levy) has a girlfriend, Henny (Anja Franke). Returning from a business trip to Japan, he finds that his roommate Kalle (Frank Beilicke) has seduced her in his absence, and that she has moved into their shared apartment. Robby's emotional disarray is too much for the new couple, and Henny moves out. The two men take on a new roommate, Paul (Josef Hoffmann), who is smitten by one of his female coworkers, Tilla (Nina Schultz), who in turn is attracted to Kalle. The elaborate romantic strategems and chest-thumping rivalry of these three men provide much of the comic material for this film. ~ Clarke Fountain, Rovi
