After a hiatus of over five months, Farscape resumed its fourth and final season with a foray into the distant past. Rescued by D'Argo (Anthony Simcoe) and the Moya crew from his wormhole odyssey, John Crichton (Ben Browder) discovers that he has inadvertently upset the Timestream. As a result, Crichton and his cohorts end up on Earth in 1986, just before John's father, Jack (Kent McCord), is about to serve as commander on the ill-fated Challenger shuttle flight. With virtually no time to spare, John tries to save his father's life, an action that will prevent the entire Farscape project from slipping into limbo. Curiously, he is given a chilly and hostile reception -- in fact, only John's father (Kent McCord) believes that Crichton really is Crichton. Also pulled through the wormhole are Aeryn (Claudia Black), D'Argo (Anthony Simcoe), and Rygel (Jonathan Hardy), who immediately upon their arrival are subjected to imprisonment and sadistic persecution. When Rygel is apparently killed and dissected, Crichton is forced to rethink his priorities -- and to confess his true feelings for Aeryn. A serial killer with a flair for art is on the loose and it is up to ace policewoman Kelly Wheatstone and her partner Frank Yankovitch to investigate in this Australian thriller. All of the serial killer's victims are women whose nude corpses he poses to look like the subjects of a well-known painter, Knowles. Naturally the artist is a prime suspect. Frank is quite distracted from the case by the possible philandering of his new wife Helena. He is correct and when her lover turns up dead, naturally, he is the prime suspect. The IMF is assigned to expedite the defection of Soviet scientist and chess champion Dr. Gregor Antonov (Bryan Marshall) --- and also to rescue Antonov's daughter, who is being held by the police as "security". The success of the mission hinges upon an elaborate magic show, staged by professional prestidigitator Zorbuskaya (Rowena Wallace). This is one of the more unusual films about a nuclear holocaust, nearly introspective in its focus on a handful of people in Sydney's world-famous opera house, finding ways to pass the time until the morning brings more news. The setting is New Year's Eve (in the middle of summer here), and some intimation of the immediate future surfaces in the form of reports on a major crisis in Europe and the aftermath of demonstrations against U.S. nuclear ships at harbor in Sydney. Sharon (Cassandra Delaney) and Eva (Saskia Post) are young teen roommates who are more interested in their own personal relationships than what is happening in distant Europe, and after meeting at the opera house where Sharon works, they are ready to go off to a New Year's party together. But before they can leave, a radio broadcast announces that nuclear bombs have been dropped in Europe and North America and also on U.S. targets in Australia. The announcer requests that people remain where they are, and the two shocked teenagers are at a loss as to how to cope. They are soon joined by an American soldier gone AWOL and a custodian who was busy working after the end of the evening's concert. The four isolated people explore the empty building, engage in conversation just to fill the time, and even distract themselves with a game of strip poker -- anything to avoid facing the possibility that this may be the last night of their lives. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide
