A sworn bachelor falls head over heels in love with a woman whom only he can see, only to find himself on a lifesaving mission in director Vivek Agrawal's ethereal, supernaturally themed romance. Everyone loves Raj Jaiswal (Arjun Rampal). The host of a popular television talk show called "British Raj," Jaiswal is an unrepentant womanizer who proposes marriage to nearly every woman he meets. Despite his insatiable appetite for flirting, however, Raj has secretly sworn to remain a bachelor until the day he dies. Everything changes for Raj when he meets a mysterious and beautiful stranger named Shivani Dutt (Vipasha) in his bedroom, and the woman makes the curious claim that Raj's apartment is, in fact, hers. Instantly smitten with the curious woman, Raj is deeply disturbed to discover that he is the only person who can see or touch Shivani. Though his friends do their best to convince Raj that Shivani is nothing more than a figment of his imagination, Raj knows that he has stumbled upon something much deeper, and remains convinced that his questioned sanity is still well intact. Upon discovering that Shivani is actually lying comatose in a hospital and that her life support is about to be disconnected, Raj enlists the aid of London's only Hindi-speaking policeman to save his one true love before it's too late. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

A crabby cab driver and an arrogant yuppie become locked in a battle of wills in director Milan Luthria's caustically hilarious comedy thriller. Raghu (Nana Patekar) is a temperamental working stiff whose penchant for getting fired has become an endless source of frustration to fed-up wife Sunita (Sonali Kulkarni). With only twenty-four hours to pay off a lingering debt of 30,000 rupees, Raghu reluctantly accepts a job as a taxi driver without his wife's approval. His cab hailed by wealthy playboy Jai (John Abraham), who is on his way to contest his late father's will, Raghu spots a ready opportunity to earn some quick extra cash. It seems that despite being completely shut out of his departed dad's revised will, the original document - stored in a nearby safe deposit box - favors him for a serious inheritance. When the cab crashes and the key to the safe deposit box goes missing, Jai panics. Though Raghu eventually finds the key, he refuses to hand it over to the man he views as a silver spoon brat as Jai embarks on a relentless quest to re-acquire what is rightfully his and walk away a rich man. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

When tragedy befalls a privileged Indian wife as she suddenly loses both her husband and unborn child, her pilgrimage to Vrindavan finds her seeking emotional solace in her friendship with three other tragic widows in director Dharan Mandrayar's thoughtful meditation on the role of the social stigma attached to widowhood in Indian society. Priya's husband has been killed in a sudden and unexpected tragedy, and upon receiving the horrific news, she soon miscarries. Suddenly rejected from society and thrust into an unfamiliar world in which the lack of a husband makes one invisible to the masses, Priya sets out on the road to Vrindavan and quickly makes the acquaintance of elder street-smart widow Roop, who has been rejected by her children; kindly Mala, who has been disfigured by her vengeful mother-in-law; and fragile 15-year-old widow and prostitute Deepti. Now, as the tragic quartet takes their fates into their own hands and refuses to accept a grim future of poverty and servitude, Priya, Roop, Mala, and Deepti will discover together that life is truly what one makes of it. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

The very British sensibilities of Jane Austen are introduced to the exotic flavors of the Bollywood musical in this romantic comedy with songs from the director of Bend It Like Beckham, Gurinder Chadha. Lalita Bakshi (Aishwarya Rai) is the lovely and eligible daughter of her socially ambitious mother and father (Nadira Babbar and Anupam Kher). Mother and father want to be sure that Lalita, the most beautiful of their four daughters, settles down with a man worthy of her, but she has proven resistant to matchmaking, announcing that she will choose her own husband, and will choose him for love. While mother is keen on the profoundly annoying Kholi (Nitin Chandra Ganatra), Lalita has had her head turned by a handsome vagabond from England, Johnny Wickham (Daniel Gilles). But while attending the wedding of a friend, Lalita meets Will Darcy (Martin Henderson), a college buddy of family friend Raj (Naveen Andrews) who is the son of a wealthy hotel magnate. Lalita finds that Will makes a strong impression on her -- she can't stand him, but she also can't get him out of her mind. Will feels the same way about her, and as they inadvertently chase one another over three continents, will morbid fascination grow into true love? Bride and Prejudice marked the first English-speaking role for Aishwarya Rai, who had firmly established herself as India's leading female star when this film was made. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

As Dil Chahta Hai opens, Siddarth, known as Sid (Akshaye Khanna) is racing to the hospital due to an unexplained emergency. There, he is reunited with his old friend, Sameer (Saif Ali Khan). Sameer calls the third member of the trio, Akash (Bombay superstar Aamir Khan from Lagaan), who tells him he's not going to join them at the hospital, due to an unresolved dispute between him and Sid. The film then flashes back to earlier, happier days, to show us what came between the three close friends. Sid was the studious, serious one, with a hidden artistic side, while Sameer foolishly let himself be ruled by the woman in his life. Akash could never limit himself to one woman. He was a playboy who claimed he didn't believe in love. Sameer found himself unexpectedly falling for Pooji (Sonali Kulkarni of Mission Kashmir), the young woman his parents have tried to arrange for him to marry. Akash's father grew concerned about his son's immaturity, and sent Akash to Australia to work for his company. There, he ran into Shalini (Preity Zinta, who also starred in Mission Kashmir), a girl who once rejected him in a Bombay nightclub. She's engaged to be married to Rohit (Ayub Khan), but as the two spend time together, Akash falls hard for Shalini. For his part, Sid met a beautiful divorcee, Tara (Dimple Kapadia), but his friends and family weren't ready to accept their relationship. Eventually, we work our way back to the present, and find out what's become of the three friends and their romantic entanglements. Dil Chahta Hai, a huge hit in India, marked the feature debut of writer-director Farhan Akhtar. ~ Josh Ralske, All Movie Guide
