The primary two loves of Alfred Nobel's life provide the basis of this Swedish biopic. Alfred Nobel was the inventor of dynamite and the founder of the prestigious Nobel Prize, which he created as a way to assuage his conscience after unleashing such a destructive force upon the world. One of Nobel's lovers was Bertha von Suttner, an Austrian woman he loved, but never made love to. The other was the adulterous Sophie Hess with whom he had a passionate affair. Also examined are some of the things leading up to Nobel's inventions. The big-budget story was shot at many scenic locations in Sweden, France and Austria. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide

In this odd comedy-noir, Marten (Jakob Eklund) has just gotten out of prison. He immediately seduces his prison-buddy's girlfriend (Helena Bergstrom). When that same buddy (Claes Malmberg) shows up on the scene, rather than being infuriated at either one, they all form a household. Neither man is sure who is the father of the child the girlfriend is now pregnant with, but they feel driven to feats of enterprise with a child on the way. Their idea of the perfect life is to buy a portable Ferris wheel and drive it all around the Swedish countryside in the brief summertime, and loaf the rest of the year. Just now it is winter, and they haven't the money to pursue their dream, so they travel to the countryside, cut Christmas trees off of someone else's land, and sell the stolen trees in Stockholm. When the tree-farmer objects to their activities, they murder him, and are soon on the run from the police. ~ Clarke Fountain, All Movie Guide

In this warm drama, Nils is in the hospital but is sufficiently ambulatory to get into the sorts of trouble ten-year-old boys everywhere get into. He's full of curiosity about everything and everyone, including the two other people in his room. One is an old man named Carson, who doesn't seem interested in much besides himself, and the other is a seriously ill boy named Lelle, who is about twelve. Lelle thinks he may be dying, and anyway he's afraid of getting too close to anyone, but after things quiet down in the evenings, he spearheads some fine, raucous adventures with Nils, and together they explore their hospital world in ways the adults wouldn't permit. ~ Clarke Fountain, All Movie Guide
