Mel Gibson's well-publicized production The Passion of the Christ concerns the last 12 hours in the life of Jesus of Nazareth. The dialogue is spoken in the ancient Aramaic language, along with Latin and Hebrew. In the Garden of Gethsemane near the Mount of Olives, Jesus (James Caviezel) is betrayed by Judas Iscariot (Luca Lionello). Jesus is condemned to death for blasphemy and brought before Pontius Pilate (Hristo Naumov Shopov), the Roman governor of Judea, for sentencing. The roaring crowd demand his death, so Pilate orders his crucifixion. Jesus is severely beaten and made to carry his cross up to Golgotha, the hill outside Jerusalem, where he is nailed to the cross. Romanian theatrical actress Maia Morgenstern plays Mary, Mother of God, and Italian superstar Monica Bellucci plays Mary Magdalene. Amid much controversy involving Gibson and various religious organizations, The Passion of the Christ received an international theatrical release in February of 2004. In March 2005, Gibson released an unrated version of the film, dubbed The Passion Recut, that eliminated five to six minutes of the more graphic scenes of flogging and crucifixion. ~ Andrea LeVasseur, All Movie Guide

In this drama that recalls the neo-realist films of the 1940s, Sciarra (Claudio Amendola) is a police detective who is leaving the force due to an incurable respiratory ailment. On his last day, Sciarra's superiors, the Commissioner (Peppe Servillo) and Porcaro (Valerio Binasco), give him a final assignment he's not very pleased about. Domenica (Domenica Guiliano), an orphaned 12-year-old girl, was raped, and when a suspect turns up dead, Sciarra is ordered to escort the girl to the morgue so that she can confirm or deny whether the dead man is the one who attacked her. Circumstances prevent this from being an easy task, and over the course of a long day, Sciarra becomes friendly with Domenica, who struggles to hold on to her innocence and optimism in a world that has allowed her very few illusions. Domenica also features American actress Annabella Sciorra as Betibu, Sciarra's ex-girlfriend and a sometime police informant. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

For some reason, thirty-something banker Luca (Pino Quartullo) wants to become a father, and his girlfriend doesn't. Their disagreements on this subject escalate until they break up. Thereafter, Luca attempts to become a father by resurrecting former relationships, having sex with his old girlfriends, and pricking holes in the condoms he uses. He temporarily quenches his baby frenzy with an endless-loop video of an infant, but that doesn't help long. Luca meets a lesbian couple (Antonella Ponziani and Rosalinda Celentano) who want a child, too, at a sperm bank. Though it looks like they could work out a deal, Luca has become sterile (possibly from worrying too much). Things escalate as the increasingly desperate trio seek to find ways to induce pregnancy, and they decide to rob a sperm bank... ~ Clarke Fountain, All Movie Guide
