In this melodramatic East Indian tear-jerker aimed at women, two hard-working but poor sisters live in a small village in Maharashtra state. One of the sisters joyfully prepares for her wedding. Unfortunately, her happiness is short-lived as her groom and the whole bridal party has been killed in a terrible train wreck. The poor young woman is totally devastated and even more so when her neighbors and even her family call her a jinx and somehow blame her for the tragedy. To escape the gossip and trouble the daughter causes, her mother sends her to "visit a relative" in Bombay. Everyone knows that she really has sold the girl into a house of prostitution. Still she begins sending money home and this allows her sister to marry a young, socially conscious politician. Things go well until the banished sister angrily shows up. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide
