While wedding are supposed to be happy occasions, one man's impending marriage leads to a series of bittersweet reunions in this drama from Serbia. Nele (Uliks Fehmiu) left Belgrade more than a decade ago to seek his fortune in Canada, and now that he's making a good living working in computers, he comes back home to his old neighborhood to marry Maya (Ana Markovic) in an arranged union. Nele finds his relationships with his male friends have become strained with the passage of time, especially Bure (Ljubomir Bandovic), who has married Nele's former girlfriend Ceca (Radmila Tomovic), and Mare (Nebojsa Glogovac), who has fallen into drug addiction. Both, however, have fared better than Nele's best pal Sima (Milos Vlalukin), who took his own life after Nele went away. While Nele's mother (Danica Ristovski) makes a fuss over him, he's more concerned with Sasha (Nada Sargin), another of his former girlfriends who is still attracted to him and makes him think twice about tying the knot with Maya, despite her obvious drinking problem. Sutra Ujutru (aka Tomorrow Morning) was screened as part of the "East of the West" series at the 2006 Karlovy Vary Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

Directed and written by Dusan Kovacevic, Profesionalac (The Professional) is set against the backdrop of what made up the former Yugoslavian territories circa the mid-'90s. The story centers around gruff Luka (Bora Todorovic), who claims to have been a State Security Police shadow during the fall of the Milosevic regime. His host, Teja (Branislav Lecic), has come to represent everything Luka despises, not just concerning Yugoslavia, but within his own individual existence. The two confront one another in a surreal montage of archival news footage and personal flashbacks. Profesionalac marks the directorial debut for Kovacevic, and received a positive reception at the Montreal World Film Festival. The film also features Natasa Ninkovic, Dragan Jovanovic, Josif Tatic, Miodrag-Miki Krstovic, Renata Ulmanski, Milos Stojanovic, Gorica Popovic, Ljiljana Dragutinovic, Dana Todorovic, and Sergej Trifunovic. ~ Tracie Cooper, Rovi

He takes a steam train and returns to his native village. During his journey, he mixes present time and past memories, meets beautiful creatures as well as horrid ones, and experiences picaresque life and death adventures. The film was screened in the International Critics' Week of the 1999 Cannes Film Festival. ~ Gönül Dönmez-Colin, Rovi

Nesto Izmedju is an intellectually comic spoof of cultural morés and linguistic groping between an American journalist (Caris Corfman) and two Yugoslav men who "court" her -- a doctor (Predrag Manojlovic) and a playboy (Dragan Nikolic). As each man tries to outdo the other for her affections, the American makes note of the aspects of the culture that might understandably seem a bit odd (eight rotating presidents at the time, for example). ~ Eleanor Mannikka, Rovi

This is an uneven, complex comedy by femme director Soja Jovanovic, based on three different stories by the Serbian writer J.S. Popovic. The general idea is universally popular -- a con artist passes himself off as someone he is not and then cheerfully wreaks havoc in a small town. Along the way to chaos, there are several romantic sub-plots that offer their own brand of humor. Though with a wide array of characters, viewers may need a score card to keep track of them. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, Rovi
