This Southern Gothic drama of a deeply troubled family was written by leading man David Steen, who adapted the screenplay from his own play. Ma Samuals (Sharon Farrell) lives in a poor section of rural North Carolina during the 1970s. Her slightly retarded son Charlie (Steen) was the product of an incestuous relationship with her uncle, a preacher who seduced her when she was only 12; despite this experience, Ma remains a devout Fundamentalist Christian. Ma also lives with her adopted daughter, Messy (Gigi Rice), though it's obvious that Charlie is the favored child, and Messy is often the target for Ma's abuse. When Cousin Anna (Sarah Trigger) is orphaned, she comes to stay with the Samuals family, which upsets the household's already shaky emotional balance. Ma disapproves of Messy's new friendship with Anna, believing she's a poor influence on her daughter, and when Anna begins spending time with Charlie, her obsessive love for her son (which has already spilled over into incest) threatens to push her over the brink. This lushly photographed, contemporary film noir tries to substitute looks and unconvincing, contrived plot twists for substance, capturing the look of a film noir but lacking the depth and characterization needed to make the film work. After his father, Mike is killed, Joe Donan (Michael Biehn) finds evidence that his Uncle Lou (James Coburn) in a dual role as Mike and Lou, might have stolen money from his father. Joe hooks up with Lou and his drug-taking lackey, Eddie (Nicolas Cage). Joe also falls for Eddie's beautiful, but devious girlfriend Diane (Sarah Trigger). Joe kills Eddie and gains Lou's confidence, joining him in a diamond swindle. As the unnecessarily complicated plot concludes, Joe learns the shocking truth that he himself has been the victim of a scam. Michael Biehn while a good-looking and competent actor, fails to find the depth necessary to bring his outwardly sophisticated but surprisingly naive character to life. Sarah Trigger is too shallow to make a convincing noir femme-fatale, and her obvious deviousness would fool only the most gullible. Nicolas Cage, in a totally over-the-top performance also fails to give his character any believability or depth. Director Christopher Coppola takes a potentially interesting premise and muddles it with too many plot twists and unconvincing performances. ~ Linda Rasmussen, All Movie Guide

The protagonist of this made-for-TV techno-thriller is Terri (Gigi Rice), a single mom who works in one of those offices where everyone has a computer terminal wired to the "hottest" sites on the web. Evidently one of Terri's co-workers is a little more computer-literate than the next. It is this mystery man who, using the handle "Cybergod," has inaugurated a campaign of terror aimed at our heroine. But is this online stalker the person who Terri strongly suspects, or someone whom she would never in a million years consider to be a dangerous predator? Whatever the case, an ex-cop named Jones (Ed Marinaro), whose partner was murdered by the selfsame Cybergod, declares his intention to solve the mystery and save Terri from a similar demise. In the concluding half of Frasier's ninth-season opener, Frasier (Kelsey Grammer) continues mulling over the past loves of his life as he tries to choose between his current amours Claire (Patricia Clarkson) and Lana (Jean Smart). In a surrealistic climax, virtually all of Frasier's women from past episodes (most of them played by the actresses who originated the roles) converge upon him -- including his late mother. Originally telecast as a one hour-special (and moved from September 18, 2001, to September 25 due to network coverage of the 9/11 tragedy), this episode has since been reedited as two half-hours for syndication. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Frasier (Kelsey Grammer) is tired of being considered a stuffed shirt. Offering to throw a bachelor party for Daphne's fiancé Donny (Saul Rubinek), Frasier intends to prove that he's as much a swinger as the next man by booking a stripper -- the sort who brings her own handcuffs and other such things. Meanwhile, Niles (David Hyde Pierce) continues to have trouble with the estimable Dr. Mel Karnofsky (Jane Adams), especially when ex-wife Maris (who had previously used Mel's services as a plastic surgeon) finds out about their relationship. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

This romantic-comedy satirizes the advertising industry while chronicling the exploits of a would-be writer trying to break into commercials. As he tries to land an role in an ad he must contend with a variety of obstacles including dancing snacks, a domineering female director and Nicole the ad executive who slowly, after a good deal of initial conflict, becomes his lover. He also must deal with Nicole's hyper macho boyfriend Roger and her overbearing father, a junk-food magnate. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide
