This Italian thriller is based on the true story of a young Sicilian public prosecutor murdered in 1990. The young magistrate Rosario is considered a revolutionary in his hometown of Canicatti, which is largely run by the Mafia. He is a serious young man, deeply religious and devoted to his parents with whom he still lives. He firmly believes that justice must prevail no matter what the cost. He does not hesitate to defy public opinion in his quest for justice. His parents fear for him. His boss is irritated by him. Fearing an early death, he dumps his fiance, Angela. So rigid a straight arrow is he, that even the other young prosecutors avoid him. Rosario is eventually gunned down by Mafioso Renato Carpentieri's henchmen. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide

Andrea (Leonardo Trame) has always loved his eccentric old aunt Gianna (Pamela Villoresi). After she suffers the loss of her husband, she asks his parents if he could stay with her in her Rome apartment over December, undoubtedly to help her through the difficulties of the holiday period. They agree to this arrangement. She is a delightful companion for the boy, sharing his love of movies and fairy tales. The situation becomes more difficult when she confides to him that she feels sure she is being followed and observed. What could have been the fantasy of a slightly demented older woman is shown to have been real, and the boy does yoeman service in rescuing her from (and capturing) a burglar. This drama is told entirely from the point of view of the young boy, and he can only partly understand the events which unfold around him. ~ Clarke Fountain, All Movie Guide

The film that has become the master work in Italian horror maestro Dario Argento's canon, Deep Red holds up brilliantly despite the plethora of copycat slasher films it inspired in the years to follow. The film opens with a flashback murder shown from the perspective of a child while an eerie nursery rhyme plays. Cut to the present, pianist Marc Daly (David Hemmings) witnesses the murder of a psychic while chatting with his drunken pal, Carlo (Gabriele Lavia). While the police investigate, Marc joins forces with attractive reporter Gianna (Daria Nicolodi). Once Marc realizes that he is a target for the killer, he seeks help from Giordani (Glauco Mauri), a professor of the paranormal, who soon becomes one of the killer's victims. Marc's research leads him to an abandoned house where he discovers a secret room that hides a corpse. Before he can call the cops, he is knocked out and awakens to find the place in flames while Gianna holds him. Racing to the neighbors to call for help, Marc discovers an important clue that leads him to a nearby school where he finally finds the killer's identity. The madman attacks him, but the police arrive to save Marc. Though the case appears to be solved, Marc comes to the disturbing realization that one piece of the puzzle remains. ~ Patrick Legare, All Movie Guide

This preposterous sex melodrama stars pretty Edwige Fenech as a prostitute hired by the overbearing mother (Maud de Belleroche) of a shy, mentally-retarded 20-year old named Tony. Fenech is meant to claim Tony's virginity on a sea cruise, also attended by sexy Paula (Rosalba Neri) and her slimy husband Aldo, who incessantly try to curry the wealthy mother's favor. Ewa Aulin (Candy) shows up as an island girl who dies when the dull-witted Tony accidentally strangles her, leading her husband to board the ship, where he is quickly dispatched by the rifle-toting Neri. Bodies are exploded with dynamite, Neri models a leather bikini, and there is much sexual byplay, both straight and lesbian. Cult buffs will appreciate seeing two of the most famous sex symbols in Italian genre film, Fenech and Neri, sharing the screen in revealing costumes, but anyone looking for high drama would be best served elsewhere. Exploitation master Jerry Gross released the film in America. ~ Robert Firsching, All Movie Guide
