This autobiographical Italian comedy paints an honest, yet ironic portrait of the film's creator and star, Piero Natoli. It also provides an insider's critical look at the Italian film industry. Mercurio, a professional filmmaker, is no stranger to hard times. The gentle man's crew, including his daughter Carlotta will follow him anywhere at anytime to make a film. His newest film is all ready for release, but he needs a distributor. Unfortunately the only distributor in Italy is too busy to see it. At the distributor's assistant's suggestion Mario must show the film at Cannes, at his own expense, where maybe his boss will see it. Unfortunately, only one person, a young French woman, Josephine, comes to his screening, and the disappointed Mercurio returns to Rome. Josephine follows. Back home, the director devises a scheme to send his film to Venice. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide

Matteo (Vincenzo Salemme) is a very devoted teacher. He spends most of his free time during the school year taking care of his invalid father, but during the summer holidays he occasionally tutors students. This year, he has two students to bring up to speed in physics: Elsa (Carlotta Natou), a confident girl of the '90s, and Giulio (Arturo Paglia), a shy, soft-spoken boy. At the end of the holidays, after many weeks of intense tutoring, Matteo treats his charges to an overnight trip to the sea. Whatever he may possess in the way of good sense should prevent him from acting on his attraction to Elsa, but he is not able to accomplish this perfectly. Giulio is also attracted to the girl, and, while they are on their jaunt together, this puts the two men in competition with each other. ~ Clarke Fountain, All Movie Guide

Without any uncomfortably explicit scenes, this film clearly shows the toll that a fifteen-year-old girl's incestuous relationship with her outwardly serene father takes on her. When Sabrina goes on a date with a boy, she becomes violently ill when the unwary lad tries to kiss her. Her father is such a mild-acting man that no one would imagine what he's been up to. She has dropped out of high school, and progressing away from her claustrophobic relationship with her father seems nearly impossible, until she takes a job at a clothing store and genuinely falls in love with one of her co-workers. This seems to offer her a way beyond her current circumstances, until her jealous father gets wind of it. ~ Clarke Fountain, All Movie Guide

Essentially a story about a father's relationship with his daughter, this autobiographical film is an interesting second offering from director Piero Natoli. Eight-year-old Carlotta (Carlotta Natoli) has been living with her mother during her parents' separation, but when she spends a summer with her father, his comfort level is put into immediate jeopardy. After a few days of attempting to fight the situation, he buys a camper and the two travel to the seashore. As they begin to reconnect, they pick up an attractive young hitchhiker (Luisa Maneri) who takes an immediate interest in Carlotta's father. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide
