This made-for-TV movie compiled from episodes of the television series The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles follows the young adventurer's military career during World War I. While fighting with Allied forces in Eastern Africa in 1916, Indiana Jones (Sean Patrick Flanery) and his platoon are escorting a shipment of weapons and ammo when they roll into a village that has been devastated by malaria. Finding only one small child who has survived, Indy has to face the difficult choice of bringing a child into battle, or leaving him behind to certain death. As Indy and his platoon advance into the Congo, the young soldier is emotionally shattered by the horrors of war, but learns a valuable lesson about human compassion when he encounters the jungle hospital of Albert Schweitzer (Friedrich von Thun). Young Indiana Jones and Oganga, the Giver and Taker of Life was edited from two episodes of the show: "German East Africa, December 1916" and "Congo, January 1917." ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

A middle-aged, slightly pudgy and earthy waitress finds herself wooed by a handsome marine animal trainer from a local theme park. Arlette (comedienne Josiane Balasko, France's answer to Roseanne) has no idea that she is the long-lost heir to the vast fortune of a dying business tycoon. Her new suitor Franck (Christophe Lambert), who is dangerously indebted to Las Vegas gamblers, is well-aware of her status and is being forced by the gamblers to court and marry her so they can later kill her and collect her inheritance. As this is a comedy, the story takes several humorous twists and turns, especially when Franck really does fall in love with the feisty Arlette and comes clean about the scheme. This leads Arlette and Franck to hatch their own plan for turning the tables on the crooks. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide

This French film is an old-fashioned melodrama with a love triangle, a talented starlet, and a duel. It is set in 1930 when talking films were just coming into vogue and threatening to overshadow theatrical plays. The film features cameos by famed French actors of that time period. Victor Derval is returning home after a performance when he is hailed by Lisa, a young Hungarian woman. Lisa's motives are mysterious; is she simply a star-struck peasant girl, or an ambitious, manipulative aspiring star? Derval is taken with her, and she soon finds herself Derval's personal secretary and is to move into his home where his son Paul, an aspiring writer/revolutionary, also lives. Both men fall for Lisa, who has already fallen in love with the limelight. She will eventually get her wish, but not without paying a price. Though generally beloved by all Parisians, Victor Derval has one detractor, playwright Coste who hates that Derval freely edits his work on stage. Paul, enraged at his father decides to plot revenge, but cannot decide whether he should kill his father or design something a little more creative. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide

In this frothy comedy, Lucie (Patricia Dinve) never knew her father, but she somehow finds out he has recently died and is to be buried on a certain day at a certain cemetary. In a belated attempt to connect with her roots, she rushes to the cemetary and joins a funeral gathering. She gets to know the people at the ceremony and is soon embroiled in an art smuggling scheme and has some (probably incestuous) romantic feelings for a young man she believes may be her brother. Eventually she finds out that she went to the wrong part of the cemetary and that these people are not her kin. ~ Clarke Fountain, All Movie Guide

The interwoven love stories in Et La Tendresse?... Bordel! No 2 contrast three different ways of being together in modern French life. Carole is the mistress of Francois, a man who not only has a wife and children, but who makes a habit of having sexual liaisons with women besides his mistress and wife. The immaturity and vagueness of Regis and Julie undermines their initially very loving relationship once they get married. Finally, the straightforward friendship between Luc and Eva evolves into a love based on respect and understanding. ~ Clarke Fountain, All Movie Guide

- Diane Bellego, Fabrice Luchini, (more)
The specialized subject of this semi-documentary is the conflict between Flemish and Walloon factions in Belgium in the 1960s that ultimately ended in a dual-language amendment to the constitution. The unrest is shown by historical footage from a winter strike in 1960-61 and serves as the backdrop for a tragic love story between two people involved in the strike. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide

In his third, somewhat flat interpretation of sexual motivations and a relationship based on love, writer and director Patrick Schulmann focuses on the gradually developing romance between a young artist and a good-looking, female radio producer whom he helps nurse back to health, as compared to his sex-possessed roommate, a photographer. Several secondary interests are pursued (a kidnapping, for instance) but none have a bearing on the main story. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide
