Director Bent Hamer's comedy drama Salmer Fra Kjøkkenet (Kitchen Stories) is based on the real-life social experiments conducted in Sweden during the 1950s. In the years following WWII, a research institute sets out to modernize the home kitchen by observing a handful of rural Norwegian bachelors. In the small town of Landstad, middle-aged Isak (Joachim Calmeyer) is one such research subject who regrets ever agreeing to participate in the study. Nevertheless, he is observed by Folke (Tomas Norström), and the two develop a strange friendship until the observer becomes sick. This artistically produced Swedish philosophical drama, filmed in black-and-white, is adapted from Strindberg's 1902 play. Using a combination of Biblical reference, classic mythology, and poetry it depicts God's daughter as she reflects upon the state of humanity. Agnes descends from Heaven to survey earthbound mortals about the cause of their pain and sadness. Initially, Agnes is carefree, but she cannot remain unaffected by the surrounding tragedy and becomes more serious. She ends up marrying an impoverished and dour lawyer. They dwell in a claustrophobic cellar with their new baby. The feature film at the local cinema stars Victoria. A frequent movie-goer tells Agnes of his love for the beautiful actress Victoria. He soon gets to meet her. Thus, it not only pleases her but undoubtedly reassures her family when the two get together for a series of adventures over the summer break. In Viking times, the sons of rulers had a pretty tough act to follow, as their fathers came to rulership by proving their toughness, courage, martial prowess, and ferocity. In this story, Sigurd (Kristian Tonby) is eleven, and he has a lot of challenges in front of him if he wants to assume his proper place in Viking society - especially as he is a pretty frail fellow. He bravely faces every one of his challenges, even though he often fails at them. When he does, he tries again. Eventually, he has faced them all, and sometime after his father's death, he is a fit man to take over his father's earlship. A mix of racial and ethnic prejudices as well as old-fashioned blackmail pit two couples against each other in this crime story from director Gianni Lepre. Bashir (Amjad Munir works in a low-level job in the kitchen of a restaurant that is not doing very well. One day he sees the owner of the restaurant deliberately setting it ablaze to collect needed financing from the insurance company. Bashir passes this interesting piece of knowledge onto his girlfriend Anne (Froydis Armand), a woman deeply in need of money herself if she wants to hang onto her house. Her brain may be soaked in alcohol on a regular basis, but Anne quickly realizes that the restaurant owner could be a gold mine to Bashir and herself. So she taunts and nags until Bashir does the deed, he lets the owner know what he wants. In response, the owner's wife (Torill Oyen) goads her husband into getting back at the would-be blackmailers in an escalating conflict in which someone has to lose.

In this slow, clichéd story about Lars (Magnus E. Haslund), a young boy trying to improve the adult world around him in his own naive way, the era of the more innocent 1950s is evoked through visual contexts, sounds, and behavior patterns. When Lars' parents have yet another argument, he surreptitiously puts a paper cut-out heart in his father's lunchbox, but some of Lars' other well-intentioned actions do not always have the desired effect and actually get him into trouble. Two men square off in a courtroom battle that really began during World War II in Norway. Sverre Nordvaag (Joachim Calmeyer) knew the other man, Reider (Rolf Soeder) for awhile during the war but when they parted company, Nordvaag turned his mind to making a profit off the war, and Reider decided to help the resistance movement -- maybe a morally correct decision, but of great emotional cost since it drove him to alcoholism. Nordvaag was acquitted of the crimes he committed during the war years, and when Reider sees him decades later he attacks him in a rage. Nordvaag has become an influential businessman, and Reider is anything but. The inequalities continue as a young reporter tries to expose Nordvaag's history and finds that his corporate colleagues are power-brokers that close ranks -- perpetuating a public myth in spite of the private reality.
