In this Israeli fantasy, two brave orphans return to Israel to search for their parents and find each other instead. Eight-year old Anna and Jan, her older brother, have not seen their parents in many years as they were sent to Europe when the war broke out. They find themselves in a transit camp surrounded by other immigrants. Life there is difficult, but the children find support from the other immigrants there. Not all the people are nice though. Anna, who does not speak, and Jan must contend with minor gangsters who take young girls for prostitutes, and steal food. Anna is suddenly alone in the camp after Jan finds work at a kibbutz. She is too young to go. Now all she has left is her teddy bear. The films' ending is more upbeat as she and Jan literally fly away. ~ Sandra Brennan, Rovi

An offensive hand gesture sets into motion a tragic series of events in director Tzahi Grad's tense tale of one man who refuses to bend to the powers that be. It's Holocaust Memorial Day, and Michael Klienhouse's wife, Tamar, has just flipped 60-year-old war hero Dreyfus the finger. Enraged at the blatant act of disrespect, Dreyfus punches the gas of his car and nearly kills Tamar when he drives directly into her door. A law-abiding citizen who only wants justice for his wife, family man Michael is shocked when the authorities tell him that there is little they can do about the incident. As it turns out, Dreyfus has some pretty powerful friends, and never seems to have lost his battlefield mentality. Stunned by the willingness of police to overlook the incident and sent into a downward spiral of powerlessness, Michael finds himself newly invigorated as he sets about procuring a gun and seeking justice on his own terms. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Within the Orthodox Jewish Community, the attitudes toward females have remained virtually unchanged for 2,000 years. In this religious-themed drama, accomplished Israeli filmmaker Avi Nesher explores the complications that arise when the relationships between a group of women residing in a midrasha (all female seminary) in Safed turn suddenly volatile. Every girl has a different motivation for enrolling in the midrasha: for Naomi (Ania Bukstein) enrollment in the seminary meant avoiding a marriage that she didn't want, and for the rebellious Michelle (Michal Shtamler) it was simply an effective means for her parents to keep her out of serious trouble. Unlikely allies at first, Naomi and Michelle soon forge a powerful bond that is later threatened by the ailing Anouk (Fanny Ardant). Anouk is a much older woman who has come to Safed in search of redemption. Despite her outward sincerity, however, Anouk is quickly turned away by the powers that be. Realizing that the brilliant Naomi can certainly find the kabbalistic texts that could restore Anouk's purity, compassionate Michelle volunteers her scholarly friend to help the desperate woman in her time of need. While her initial hesitation is soon compounded by the fact that the head mistress forbids both students from any further contact with the mysterious Anouk, Naomi selflessly vows to expunge the sins of Anouk's past even if it means putting her own future at risk. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi
