Maxine Bahns Movies
Born in Vermont and a graduate of New York University with a degree in classics,
Maxine Bahns only became an actress when her then-boyfriend
Edward Burns cast her in his semi-autobiographical, famously low-budget feature debut
The Brothers McMullen (1995). As the onscreen love interest of Burns' commitment-phobe McMullen, the untrained Bahns became part of a cast of unknowns who shed that status when the film became the archetypal Sundance Film Festival success story. Bahns costarred again with Burns in his second feature
She's the One (1996), as his free-spirited wife. Viewed essentially as a
Brothers McMullen reprise with better-known professional actors,
She's the One failed to definitively establish Bahns as an actress in her own right. ~ Lucia Bozzola, Rovi

An art photographer becomes convinced that the cabin on his new country property is haunted when the spirit of the deceased sorceress who once lived there begins to manifest itself in a variety of deadly and terrifying ways. Convinced to move to the country with his wife Helen (Maxine Bahns) in order to contend with the loss of their stillborn baby, Shawn Burnett (Andrew Bowen) experiences a series of disturbing events around his property that all seem to tie back to that decrepit old shack. According to the locals, a malevolent conjurer once lived in the cabin, and her vengeful spirit still dwells there. At first Shawn is skeptical, but when disturbing echoes of his troubled past reverberate into the present, he becomes convinced that forces beyond his understanding are at work. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Director John Woodward highlights a semi-comic case of miscarried justice in this account of a true life incident in which an innocent woman was nearly imprisoned for offering discount table dances. When the Texas vice squad raids a small dance club, few could have seen the legal fiasco that was about to ensue. Now, bungled facts, questionable investigation methods, and high level corruption all combine to present a textbook example of criminal justice gone horribly awry. As the arresting officers take the stand only to reveal the deeply embarrassing incompetence of local law enforcement, the truth gradually begins to emerge revealing that it was the authorities, not the accused, who truly should have been put on trial. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

This is the second film by actor/director Ed Burns, his first being The Brothers McMullen. The two Fitzpatrick brothers, Mickey (Ed Burns) and Francis (Mike McGlone), would appear to have little in common, as the older is a rather volatile cab driver, the younger is a very settled stockbroker. Just prior to the time of the film, Mickey, after a whirlwind romance, married Hope (Maxine Bahns), one of his passengers. Francis has been married to his lifelong sweetheart (Jennifer Aniston) for some time. However, they are both very competitive about Heather (Cameron Diaz), an old flame of Mickey's. Mickey, who was once her fiance, left her when he found out she was sleeping with someone else. At the time of the story, Heather just happens to become a passenger in Mickey's cab, and they decide to finish exchanging belongings left over from their break-up. When Heather gives Francis (her current lover) the watch Mickey just returned to her, complications multiply. ~ Clarke Fountain, Rovi

Shot on weekends over an eight-month period with practically no budget, writer/director/producer/actor Edward Burns' first feature is a family drama centering on the tumultuous love lives of three small-town, Irish-American brothers. Burns stars as Barry, the middle child who finds himself needing a place to stay and moves in with big brother Jack (Jack Mulcahy). Despite being seemingly happily married to Molly (Connie Britton), Jack gives in to temptation and begins having a sexual affair. All the while, devout-Catholic baby brother Patrick (Mike McGlone) faces an ongoing struggle to deal with the religious leanings of the women in his life. The Brothers McMullen premiered at the 1995 Sundance Film Festival, where it was at the center of a fierce bidding war. ~ Matthew Tobey, Rovi
