Emotionally devastated after accidentally causing the death of an obnoxious drunk, an unscrupulous real estate agent wrestles with the remorse of killing a beloved father and husband as his life begins to unravel to reveal an entire history of regret. Real estate agent Ulrick Nymann (Lars Brygmann) isn't known for his honesty, though his lack of morals have no doubt played a huge part in his success. One night, while celebrating a recent condo sale in a flashy upscale nightclub, Ulrick convinces his friends to duck out in favor of a quiet dive bar. Once there, the contemptuous Ulrick clashes with a loud mouth drunk, with the war of works quickly turning physical. When the drunk suffers a fatal fall, Ulrick is sent to the slammer overnight. Quickly released thanks to the efforts of his lawyer brother (Nicolas Bro) and their powerful but estranged father (Morten Grunwald), Ulrick returns to his materialistic wife Camilla (Anne Sophie Byder) and goes back to work for his unethical boss. The problem is, the death seems to have a greater impact on Ulrick than anyone, including himself, expected. In the following weeks Ulrick attempts to make amends for his transgression by getting closer with the man's grieving family. As a result, however, he drifts ever further away from his own wife and their haughty circle of friends. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

Danish filmmaker Nicolas Winding Refn follows up his intense crime drama Pusher with this story of a young couple living on the edges of society. Leo and Louise (Kim Bodnia and Rikke Louise Andersson) are in love and share a flat; Leo likes to go drinking with his buddies and watch action movies on the VCR, while Louise prefers quiet nights at home. Louise's brother Louis (Levino Jensen) is a racist thug who imagines himself an underworld kingpin. Lenny (Mads Mikkelsen) is a friend of Leo's who loves movies but is painfully shy around women; when he finally works up the nerve to ask Lea (Liv Corfixen), a waitress at an all-night diner, for a date, a mix-up finds the two seeing the same film but at different theaters. While Leo seems better adjusted with his friends, that begins to change when Louise informs him that she's going to have a baby. Leo doesn't react well to the news: he becomes remote and begins to turn violent, as a long-held self-loathing finally begins to rise to the surface. Bleeder received strong notices, particularly for the performances by Kim Bodnia and Rikke Louise Andersson, in its showings at the 1999 Venice and Haugesund Film Festivals. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

This slice-n-dicer marks Denmark's first foray into the teenage-slasher movie genre. This one is different in that it contains a sci-fi element in lieu of a supernatural one. It all ends and begins (simultaneously it turns out) at Elf Hill High School as seven young people are called to detention in the biology lab. They are locked in and forced to watch a television screen that informs them that somewhere in the school a murder has occurred. One fellow then climbs out a window to investigate. Later it is discovered that he killed his own brother. The door then opens and two girls flee. They are separated and one of them is found dead. Soon the kids are dropping like flies. Suddenly the story moves outside the high school where a correspondent for the TV reality show "Final Hour", which covers murders and other atrocities while they are happening, is seen narrating the events. For some reason this reporter seems to know what will happen before it happens. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide
