Director Andrei Konchalovsky comes a cropper with this mawkish road movie starring Whoopi Goldberg and James Belushi. Goldberg plays Edwina, an escaped mental patient with a brain tumor and only a month to live. Belushi is Homer, a retarded man abandoned by his parents when he was a child after a smack with a baseball bat rendered him an idiot. The two team-up when Homer takes off to Oregon to visit his parents and catch up on old times. Edwina agrees to drive him there to recover the $87 that Homer has stolen from her. As they drive down the American roadways, they bond, and Edwina is granted the shining love of Homer as she lapses into a coma. ~ Paul Brenner, Rovi

In this madcap comedy, Geena Davis plays Valerie, a manicurist living in the valley with her cold fiancé, Dr. Ted Gallagher (Charles Rocket). At the Curl Up and Dye beauty salon where she works, Valerie enlists the help of her boss, Candy Pink (Julie Brown), for some style advice to try and win back Ted's affections. After undergoing a brand-new hairstyle, Valerie learns that Ted is having an affair and she kicks him out of the house. Soon, while lounging around in her bikini, a spaceship from the planet Jhazzalan crash-lands in her swimming pool. Curious, Valerie befriends the ship's inhabitants -- three horny aliens covered in fur named Mac (Jeff Goldblum), Whiploc (Jim Carrey), and Zeebo (Damon Wayans). Introducing her new friends to Candy, the aliens get a shave and a total makeover transformation into hot, available dates. In Hardcase and Fist, it all begins when undercover cop Bud McCall (Ted Prior) has himself incarcerated in Folsom Prison. McCall's mission is to prevent an imprisoned mob flunkey from providing a false alibi for syndicate boss Vincent (Vince Barbi). Meanwhile, Vincent has arranged for one of his henchmen, Tony Marino (Tony Zarindast, who also directed the film) to be locked up in Folsom for the purpose of bumping off McCall. As it turns out, Marino is an old army buddy of McCall's and can't bring himself to do Vincent's bidding. Once this plot point is dispensed with, McCall and his prison-savvy cellmate Eddy Lee (Carter Wong) team up to thwart the string-pulling Vincent and to rescue Marino's girlfriend from her mob abductors. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
