When a soon-to-be teenage monarch is forced to flee her unstable county during a military takeover, a rural Louisiana teen attempts to help her make the transition to rural American life until order can be restored back home. Rosalinda Marie (Demi Lovato) was about to become queen of Costa Luna when chaos swept through the streets, and an agent from the Princess Protection Program whisked her away to safety. After receiving her new identity at PPP headquarters, "Rosie" learns that she will temporarily be living with the family of the agent who just rescued her. At first, young Carter Mason (Selena Gomez) isn't quite sure what to make of her new houseguest. All Carter knows is that "Rosie" is posing as her cousin from Iowa, and that it's going to take a lot of work to help the princess fit in at her local high school. At first the two girls seem to share little in common except for their age, though when "Rosie" nominates Carter for homecoming queen over the vehement objections of popular girls Chelsea and Brooke, the ice begins to thaw. Realizing that "Rosie" is more than just an air-headed princess from an unknown country, Carter begins brainstorming for a means of helping her new pal regain her throne, no matter what the risk. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Produced for cable's Showtime service, the half-hour Weeds starred Mary-Louise Parker as suburban housewife Nancy Botwin, whose comfy, affluent existence was shattered by the unexpected death of her husband. With no other readily available source of income, Nancy decided to service an ever-growing consumer demand -- by selling marijuana to other white-bread suburbanites. Purchasing her pot from streetwise dealer Conrad Shepard (Romany Malco) and his aunt, supplier Heylia James (Tonye Patano), Nancy set up her new business enterprise using a bakery as a front, with the assistance of city councilman Doug Wilson (Kevin Nealon) -- all the while keeping her activities a secret from her snooty, traditionalist best friend, PTA president Celia Hodes (Elizabeth Perkins). Also in the cast were Alexander Gould and Hunter Parrish as Nancy's sons, Shane and Silas; Justin Kirk as her overgrown-slacker brother-in-law, Andy; Andy Milder as Celia's feeble husband, Dean Hodes; Allie Grant as the Hodes' overweight daughter, Isabelle; and Martin Donovan as Peter, a single dad whom Nancy fell for -- and who turned out to be a DEA agent. The series' ironic theme music was the Womenfolk's "Little Boxes," a satiric paean to split-level conformity. One of those series invariably described as "smart and sexy" by in-the-know critics, the Golden Globe-winning Weeds debuted August 7, 2005. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

The title of this NBC detective drama referred not to the Biblical river but to Dr. Jordan Cavanaugh, played by former Law and Order regular Jill Hennessy. A brilliant Boston-based medical examiner, Jordan tended to rub her superiors the wrong way with her feistiness and insubordination, but her expertise and persistence inevitably proved to be indispensable to Beantown's coroner's office. The heroine was the sort of forensic sleuth who popped up at funerals to snap the cuffs on the "grieving" spouse in preparation for a murder charge. Acting as Jordan's unofficial leg man was her father, Max (Ken Howard), an ex-cop plagued by memories of his murdered wife and by the scandal that cost him his job. Rounding out the cast was Miguel Ferrer as Jordan's combative rule-bound boss, Garret Macy. Created by Tim Kring of Providence fame, the weekly, 60-minute Crossing Jordan was to have made its NBC bow on September 17, 2001, but breaking news events pushed up the series' premiere date to September 24. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Disney filmed its version of the Jack London story in 1991 and followed with this sequel four years later. Besides the presence of a dog named White Fang and its setting in the Alaska Gold Rush days, the story bears no resemblance to London's original story. Jack Conroy (Ethan Hawke), the hero of the first Disney film, has bequeathed his gold mine and the wild wolf-dog White Fang to young Henry Casey (Scott Barstow). The boy and dog thwart a would-be thief and decide to take their gold to San Francisco. While rafting to the nearest town, they capsize, lose their gold, and are separated. Lily (Charmaine Craig), a young Indian princess, rescues Henry from the rapids. She, along with her tribal chief Moses (Al Harrington) and his followers, believes that Henry is the reincarnation of a great spirit wolf who will help the Haida tribe find the Great Caribou. Henry and Lily fall in love, and Henry sets out to find the legendary Caribou who will save the tribe from extinction. Television actor Ken Olin made his directorial debut with this family fable. ~ Michael Betzold, Rovi
