The BBC1 military miniseries Bravo Two Zero was based on the actual experiences of Sergeant Andy McNab, who adapted the teleplay from his own novel. Set during the 1991 Gulf War, the series' two 60-minute episodes follow an SAS Patrol as they burrow deep into Iraqui-held territory. Their mission: to destroy the scud missiles in the arsenal of Saddam Hussein. Getting into enemy territory was the "easy" part; getting out was another matter entirely. Without giving away the ending, it should be noted that the SAS team in question was the most highly decorated British patrol since the days of the Boer War -- and that only five of the eight operatives lived to receive their decorations. Veterinarian Molly Saunders (Gail O'Grady) is mighty depressed as she attends the wedding of her former husband Bruce (Corbin Bernsen). During the ceremony, Molly makes the acquaintance of sportswriter Jake Michaelson (Rob Stewart), a sentimental guy who is in attendance because his ex-wife Joan (a rare acting appearance by onetime Donald Trump vis-à-vis Marla Maples) happens to be Jake's new bride. Though Molly and Jake are a mismatched couple, to say the least, it is remotely possible that a romance will develop (this is, after all, a made-for-cable movie). Although the police investigation is spotty at best and the evidence questionable, Risa Gallagher (Joanna Pacula) receives a life sentence for the murder of her philandering millionaire husband. Managing to escape from prison, Risa goes from friend to friend in hopes of finding out who might have framed her, and to expose the real killer. Her task is of course complicated by the cops that dog her trail, and the fact that someone very, very close to her is responsible for her plight. Without going into further detail, let it be known that Joan Collins and Kate Jackson are respectively cast as Risa's wheelchair-bound mother (with a blonde wig), and the alcoholic ex-wife of Risa's late hubby. Melody drops a list of the things she'd really like for Christmas in "Santa's Mailbox" at work, and to her surprise she actually gets the things she asks for, but each item has an unexpected string attached. The plot follows Martin Bullet, an L.A. cop who is on suspension for shooting an unarmed suspect, to his new job with the New South Wales police department in Sydney. His partner is Jack Moran whose partner died in pursuit of a mobster. Together they search for a mysterious killer who wears a single earring. Based on the book of the same name by Laurel Pace, Harris stars as Jordan Kirkland, a genealogist who begins tracing her wealthy Aunt Kitty's (Vivian Reis) roots. Lynda Day George, who from 1971 to 1973 played IMF agent Lisa Casey on the original Mission:Impossible, here reprises the role in the "new" episode "Reprisal." Casey's life is being threatened by a former colleague, now confined to a mental institution, who has also managed to frame IMF head Jim Phelps for a series of murders. Well- versed in the Team's modus operandi, the villain is using a deadly lookalike to carry out his evil schemes (significantly, the German title of this episode is "Die Doppelganger"). First telecast March 18, 1989, as part of the "M:I" revival series, "Spy" guest-stars Shane Briant as Dr. Yuri Nicolai, a KGB colonel --- not the villain of the peace, but instead a new member of the IMF team! The mission: To locate and destroy a chemical-weapons plant being operated in Africa by cashiered British Intelligence agent John Christie (Tim Hughes). Though not the same series as the 1959 The Flying Doctor, this long-running Australian weekly dealt with essentially the same subject matter. Created by Vincent Moran and Terry Stapleton for Australia's Nine Network, the program was launched as a three-part miniseries (actually consisting of six hour-long episodes) in 1984, dealing with the courageous activities of the Royal Flying Doctors Service. Photographed on location in the Outback and other far-flung regions, the series proved to be as popular internationally as it was Down Under. "Slim Dusty" is the stage name (adopted in 1937) of Australian country-music star David Gordon Kirkpatrick who is featured in this docudrama that covers his life and music -- with emphasis on the music. For the Term of His Natural Life, Australian novelist Marcus Clarke's epic tale of the hardships and deprivations of his native country in the 1830s, served as the basis for one of the most famous Australian films of the silent era. That was in 1927; 56 years later, Clarke's novel again went before the cameras, this time resulting in a three-part, six-hour TV miniseries. Colin Friels starred as Londoner Rufus Dawes, who thanks to treachery and deceit was arrested on a trumped-up charge and transported to a penal colony in Tasmania, while an impostor laid claim to his birthright. Eighteen years into his incarcaration, Rufus managed to escape, and was subsequently reunited with his sweet Sylvia (Susan Lyons), daughter of the colony's warden.
