The only clue to the identity of a dead woman is the 40,000-dollar ring she wore on her finger. Investigating, the detectives discover that the victim was previously reported as having been killed when the World Trade Center was destroyed September 11, 2001. Subsequent clues lead to the arrest of wealthy and influential Bradley Hagen (Stevie Ray Dallimore), an old friend of DA Arthur Branch (Fred Dalton Thompson). Similar to the premise of American Graffiti, this film centers on eight California high school students whose lives intersect over two nights in the hot summer of 1965. As the Watts riots begin, the young people make decisions that will impact their entire lives. Writer-director Floyd Mutrux examines at the graduating class of 1965 of Westwood High School in Los Angeles, which was featured on the cover of Look magazine in 1961. The story is narrated by the class valedictorian, Mary Beth (Lucy Deakins). Kelli Williams plays Sunshine, a prototypical flower child. In Disney's Cheetah, Keith Coogan and Lucy Deakins play two LA teenagers who aren't really looking forward to their upcoming trip to Kenya. Once in Africa, the kids change their minds when, together with local youth Collin Mohtupi, they befriend a cheetah cub. When the cub grows to maturity, it is necessary for Coogan and Deakins to reacclimate their domesticated pet to life in the wilds. The plot's menace is personified by a covetous store owner who hopes to exploit the cheetah at the local dog races. Jeff Grant (River Phoenix) is a San Diego teen who discovers his father Richard (Richard Jenkins) and mother Elizabeth Grant) are KGB agents. When he applies to the Air Force Academy, a routine FBI check leads to the shocking news. Soon the suburb of Fountain Grove becomes the focus of international agents and espionage. FBI agent Roy Parmenter (Sidney Poitier) helps Jeff absorb the shock and he battles KGB agent Konstantin Karpov (Richard Bradford) in a race to capture the Soviet agents. In the John Hughes-scripted The Great Outdoors, John Candy stars as Chet Ripley, an oafish paterfamilias who takes his family on a vacation at a lakeside resort. Their enjoyment is seriously compromised when brother-in-law Roman Craig (Dan Aykroyd) shows up with his wife and kiddies. The rest of the film is an ongoing war between Ripley's carefree aggregation and Craig's obnoxiously prissy brood, and making things worse, a driving rainstorm forces both families to remain under one roof well-past their threshold of patience. Jay Underwood plays an autistic boy who provides a source of fascination to a new family in town. Never uttering a sound, Underwood spends hours in his backyard, attempting to fly like the birds. Lucy Deakins, the daughter of the new family, befriends Underwood; she is encouraged by teacher Colleen Dewhurst to try to draw the boy out of his shell, and to keep a journal on the subject. Rendered unconscious in a fall, Deakins dreams that Underwood can fly.
