Inspired by the true story of Kiranjit Ahluwalia, Jag Mundhra's Provoked tells the tale of a battered wife pushed to the ultimate act of defiance. As a nineteen year old girl living in a small Punjab village with her overbearing sisters and their husbands, Kiranjit Ahluwalia (Aishwarya Rai) aspired to get a college education and see the world. Despite her ambitious plans, however, Kiranjit put her entire future on hold the moment she met handsome family friend Deepak (Naveen Andrews). Later, after a whirlwind romance, Kiranjit and Deepak married and prepared to move into Deepak's home in a quaint suburb of London. Kiranjit's storybook romance would quickly give way to a terrifying reality however when, over the course of the following decade, the loving bride suffered a relentless torrent of emotional and physical abuse of her tyrannical husband. Eventually pushed to her breaking point and desperately fearing for the safety of her children, Kiranjit killed Deepak and was subsequently sentenced to life in prison. Though Kiranjit was at first reluctant to share the details of her harrowing experience, she eventually became convinced that the only way to break the cycle of violence was to share her story with the world. A man is torn between his faith, his family, and his profession in this taut thriller. Tariq Ali (Naseeruddin Shah) was born in Pakistan and raised in a Muslim household by parents who later emigrated to London, but he's been willing to set a certain amount of his cultural identity aside in order to advance his career in law enforcement. Tariq is married to Susan (Greta Scacchi), who is both British and Christian, and they're raising two children, Zara (India Wadsworth) and Imran (Arrun Harker). Tariq's intelligence and professionalism have helped him become a top detective at Scotland Yard, but when a suspected Muslim terrorist is shot and killed by police, Tariq is assigned to investigate in hopes of defusing public anger over the incident. As Tariq looks into the victim's background as well as the actions of the police, the media uncovers evidence of Tariq's friendship with Junaid (Om Puri), an outspoken Islamic leader who is believed to be linked to several terrorist groups. Two female friends invent a stranger named "Vincent" in order to win back one of the girl's ex-boyfriends, only to find their ploy for jealousy entangled with a plot for murder after one of them is accused of actual homicide. Sexual harassment and revenge are the themes of this thriller. A secretary is murdered in a New York office building. In L.A. Ashley, who works for an advertising agency, is at an office party.There she surreptitiously has sex with a fellow employee. Michael Miller just moved from New York to be the new marketing head. With him he brings his pregnant wife and his daughter Emily. Soon after his arrival he begins harassing Ashley culminating in an attack in an elevator. She goes to court charging him with sexual harassment, but because she has a reputation for making it with others in the office, loses. Despondent, she offs herself in a car crash. Ashley's sister is livid and decides she will avenge her sister's death by ruining Michael. First she gets a job at the agency. Next she seduces Michael and video tapes him making love to her.
