Luke Perry stars in this biography of the late Lane Frost, a champion bull rider who in 1987 won a rodeo world championship at the tender age of 21. In Eight Seconds (the title refers to the minimum amount of time a rider must stay on a bull in competition), Lane Frost is a young man from Oklahoma who learns to ride, hoping to win the approval of his emotionally distant father. As Lane works his way up the rodeo circuit with his best friend Tuff Hedeman (Stephen Baldwin), he meets Kelly Kyle (Cynthia Geary), a pretty barrel-race rider with whom he falls in love. Lane and Kelly marry, but Lane stubbornly refuses any help from Kelly's wealthy parents, forcing the young couple to live a hand-to-mouth existence, and while Lane's dedication to rodeo and its fans earns him a devoted following, it also keeps him away from Kelly and threatens to sink their relationship. Lane's hard work pays off when he wins the 1987 world championship, but the danger of the sport catches up with him two years later, when he dies as a result of an accident during competition. This British romantic comedy from director and star Martin Clunes concerns Neil Price (Clunes), a meek toy demonstrator who becomes engaged to Hilary (Sarah Winman), a beautiful girl from a prosperous family. At his wild bachelor party, Neil consumes a spiked drink and passes out. When he awakens, he is nude on a Scottish island beach, with only three days to make it back to London in time for his wedding. Along the route, Neil has a series of adventures and meets a variety of eccentric characters, including a sexually-depraved Welsh salesman, Graham (Griff Rhys Jones). and a medical researcher, Carmen Svennipeg (Anna Chancellor), who assists Neil in his quest to get back home. Back in London, however, it unfolds that Neil's best friend Gary (Michael Praed) is the party responsible for slipping Neil the drugged elixir and depositing the poor groom on the remote beach. Adapted from Jane Austen's final novel, the five-part British drama series Persuasion starred Anne Firbank as Anne Elliot, a young woman dangerously close to becoming an "old maid." Seven years earlier, Anne had allowed her opinions to be swayed by others (local busybody Lady Russell [Marian Spencer] in particular) and had spurned the advances of dashing Captain Wentworth (Bryan Marshall). Regretting her rashness, Anne could only stand aside in quiet desperation as the now-affluent and well-connected Wentworth ardently pursued the much-younger Louise Musgrove (Zhivila Roche). But though Anne might have been too proud to admit that she still harbored affection for Wentworth, her pride could easily be cast aside should she perceive an opportunity to win the Captain back. In the third episode of the five-part story "The Mind Robber," the Doctor (Patrick Troughton), Zoe (Wendy Padbury), and Jamie (Frazer Hines) find themselves in a strange forest, where the trees are in the shape of huge letters. All around them are images apparently culled from the world's most famous literature, and there is talk in the air of a "master" who is in charge of things. The mystery deepens when the time travellers meet a stranger (Bernard Horsfall) in 18th century garb -- who, like the rest of the planet, is oddly familiar to them.
